2nd Man reminded me recently that because of quarantine, we missed out on our Easter chocolate.
It took some online surfing but I found a place with some left. The rabbit is solid but the chick is hollow. Oh well, it's still chocolate. Let the eating begin!
2nd Man is happy and that's all that matters, ha.
It's been a nice weekend. Farm yesterday so we could get out of the house for a bit. It's nice to be outside in the fresh country air and not have to worry about masks and gloves.
Speaking of...interesting story. Stopped a small grocery store out there on the way to the farm. When I pulled in there was a guy in a truck that pulled in next to me and had about six of those large 5 gallon water bottles to fill using the machine in front of the store. I had my mask and gloves on and went in and got what we needed.
On the way out, the guy was finishing up and he said "excuse me can I ask you a question?". I said yes, figuring he was going to be asking for directions or something. He said "why is everyone wearing masks and gloves?" I was startled for a moment and I said "because of the pandemic and quarantine". Turns out he lives in the country and said he doesn't have a TV and only comes into town once every month or two to get supplies.
It never dawned on us that there could be people out there that may not know what's going on, even in this age of instant news and interconnectedness.
The store provides free masks (we only had our one mask) and so I told him to grab a couple when he went in. I did give him a few latex gloves and told him not to touch his face and to always wash his hands thoroughly after shopping.
It's a strange new world for sure!
Be well!
Wow! A modern day Rip Van Winkle. He must not have any family or friends who know he's off the information grid. Kinda scary that there's no one in his life *at all*, not even a kindly neighbor, to get him up to speed when the need arises.
ReplyDeleteSo did you find out where he lives? Because now I'm gonna be worrying about that guy every time a hurricane bears down on us.
How amazing.
ReplyDeleteI suspect his simple life makes him safer than many of us.
wow....so interesting!
ReplyDeleteok, I can see having no tv. but a radio at least? ignorance is NOT bliss these days.
ReplyDeleteI applaud yo u guys for sharing some rubber gloves and informing him of the situation on what's going on right now. I think you where at the right place at the right time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like he leads a pretty simple, & lonely life. I do feel sorry for him being by himself with no family or friends around or anyone to talk to.
I imagine it would be a surreal if you don't know what's going on. That just shows how much has changed in such a short time if he was in town a month ago and didn't notice anything strange then.
ReplyDeleteTommy said to me, "Doesn't he ever talk to anyone?" Well, he may have friends who are not aware, either. That does not mean he is isolated from other people. Still, it is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you found the chocolate bunny and chick. It’s so nice that you searched around for them to make 2nd Man happy. Doing small kindnesses is so important at all times in a relationship and especially in times of difficulty like now.
ReplyDeleteIt’s amazing that guy is so isolated that he didn’t know what’s going on in the outside world. I hope his solitary life is by choice and not by necessity and loneliness.
I have a friend who was not aware of the NY state mask rule because she is an accountant who was concentrating on tax season. Doesn't surf the web other than the computer programs required for her job. Only watches TV news as needed. She figured it out quick enough, but not everyone is plugged into social media and HLN 24/7. And that's where we are all getting our new social cues.
