At the farm, there was a visitor while I was working...
Black Baldy |
...this little cow. Note that it is on OUR side of the fence! Well, it was a bit older than a calf but was still pretty young. I wanted so bad to do some head scratching but alas, I guess social distancing has gone to the cows too, ha.
It came from the property behind us (more than 100 acres) and while we didn't find a fence line gap there, at the back corner where our property, the next-door neighbor's property and the cattle property all adjoin, there was a section of wire down and somehow it got through. "R" from 2nd Family was going to get the cutie back home and fix the wire.
He's awesome. 2nd Man is going to bake some bread for them next weekend.
Look at the face! A dear friend who's been around cows at his parents ranch for most of his life says this is a "Black Baldy" which is a cross of an Angus and Hereford. That face reminds 2nd Man and I of a Rorschach test.
We both saw a bat, ha.
Oh My Gosh; he's adorable.
ReplyDeleteA bat face was the first thing that came to my mind as well. Sure does look like a shape of a bat.
Right? I saw a bat and then I asked 2nd Man he said bat too.
DeleteWhat else did you do on the farm in addition to the cute encounter? Roderick
ReplyDeleteIt was mowing day, I weeded the garden, and I cleared out the galvanized rings we were using for the old citrus planters behind the garden. Pics on that coming up.
Deleteawwwwwwwwwwwwwww, little bat-faced cow!
ReplyDeleteRight??? ;-)
DeleteTo help you fit in to country life lol, never say "cow" when referring to anything male. Cow is an adult female, that would be like saying, "that little boy is a cute woman". That's probably a steer but you could still call it a calf or there could be another slang term for it down there.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I didn't thing about that. I wasn't sure if 'calf' was too young because it looked kind of like a teenage calf, ha.
DeleteThat is a cute cow. She probably wonders why you are in her yard.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably true, or it was like a field trip to a new place, ha.
DeleteWhat a little beauty! Such a sweet face – the markings look like a butterfly.
ReplyDeleteA butterfly!!! I can see that! Cool. Definitely a sweet face.
DeleteShoot; that cutie is just in disguise by having it's Halloween mask on and just trying it on for size. Or either that he's the masked bandit. :}
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day; have a great evening; stay safe & stay healthy.
We will be having storms moving in today, tonight & into tomorrow morning and heading south-east.
A very cute bat-faced steer!
