ROOF TRUSSES, RAFTERS, AND EXTERIOR WALLS NEW HOUSE UPDATE

Well look at what we have now!

The makings of a house!  This was from last Friday.  They started putting up the roof trusses and rafters.  It's amazing how different it looks when you start to see the lines of a roof taking shape.

This is looking "through" the wall of the living room into the master bedroom and bath...

This is standing in the kitchen looking through the wall into the pantry and beyond that, the garage.

What else do you see about these "interior" photos?  You can't see through to the outside, because...

We have exterior walls!  They've enclosed the house in wood and then wrapped it in Tyvek.  After this, they go back and cut the door and window openings.

In fact, in this photo, on the left end of the house, they had yet to cut into the transom window in the shower.

And for this photo, go back and look at the first one in this post.  It's the same angle, just a few days later.  Things are changing so fast.  They told us they should finish up this phase by the end of the week, and then they will start on the roof decking next week.  The weather next week is iffy at best so we'll see how it goes.  After the decking, they'll install the windows and exterior doors and then put up the siding.

So much progress.

We can't stop staring at the pictures.

We. Have. A. House.

  1. This part of the construction seems almost magical as it goes so fast, from nothing to the bones of a house. It does slow down once they get to the "watertight shell" phase, as then most of the work is inside and finishing work, and that always goes slower. Looks like you are going to have a magnificent home, though.

  2. With the rafters going up and out side walls sealed, rest of windows cut out; it won't be long before the siding is put up and the roof completed. You going to have metal or shingle roofing?
    Once the outside is basically done, then you will be having the electricians and plumbers doing their thing.
    Gosh, just think, you both may be moving in on the day of your anniversary. :-}
    Enjoy your day and have a wonderful week.
    Just having a light rain here; nothing heavy like some places are getting.

  3. It is hard to believe the work is going so well and progress shows every day. I love building your house with you as it seems with the good pictures and wording. Thanks for taking me along. I know you two are very excited, I am, and I don't even know you, just a Facebook friend.

  4. This is so exciting — you can feel the joy in every sentence! It's like watching your dream materialize beam by beam. Seeing those rooflines start to shape the sky and the walls define your future rooms must be surreal. I love how you pointed out the shift from open framing to enclosed walls; it suddenly feels like a real home, not just a project. Are you already picturing where the furniture will go, or is it still too early for that kind of fun?
