WE HAVE AN OUTHOUSE

OK, had to laugh at this.  They had delivered this to the property...

So, does that mean we have a 2 1/2 bath house now?  LOL!  They delivered the porta-potty for the workers (we asked and the company that delivered it comes and cleans/changes it regularly).

But that made us think, with 11 acres and a future pond site several acres away, we were wondering if a real outhouse with some sort of composting toilet, would be practical?  Even if we added a structure by the pond, like a covered pavilion, we wouldn't have a septic tank dug and/or water pipes plumbed across acres just for that.

Something to think about for the future! 😀

  1. Actually, it's not a bad idea. That way, if you have a party, people won't be tromping in and out of the house.

  2. Consider Texas heat ... no amount of lime can kill that stink! If you have a shindig ... have it on the party porch and in the backyard ... closer to el bano! Just saying!

  3. I think either a traditional outhouse or composting toilet away (far away) from the house might be a great idea

  4. A composting outhouse would be great for a party or just for working in hard. I saw one on a video with wheels that you could push'/pull with handle across back. People would take it to area where they were working. Make it something like 5x5 feet withamenities inside, like place to wash hands. I think they emptied the contents in another area of their land. People at a party could use it instead of traipsing inside.

  5. When you are mowing at the far end of your property; it just may come in handy sometimes.
Keep that 'Honey Bucket' far enough away from the house. Just watch out for wasps, they just may claim it as their home and watch out for snakes as well.
Enjoy your day and have a wonderful, relaxed evening.

  6. A composting toilet could be a good idea for use by the future pond.

  7. I grew up on a farm with an outhouse, it was built about 1949 and still stand today. It was rather fancy for its time; it had vents in the back and a window a little higher than the seat. It has served many years and still is in very good shape. I had my first inside bathroom after I married.

    1. elliek; your outhouse sounds like a palace to what I used on the Iowa farm. Ours was just an old wooden one. Had to use a flashlight when it got to be sunset. The winter months where the worse; like living on 'Little House on the Prairie' and yet they call them 'the good ole days' . . NOT.

    2. Colleen, you are right our outhouse was nice for an outhouse. Most of my friends had ones like you had. It was very cold in the winter in Ohio but my cousin lined all the inside with card board to make it a little warmer. There are a few things I miss but I love having indoor bathroom. The barn and house was built in 1875, the house still is lived in, but they tore the big red 3 story barn down this year.
