ROADSIDE CHAIR FIND

White chair
Was driving home from work the other night and saw this on the side of the road.  Side note, I still feel strange doing that, like I'm taking something I shouldn't.  But I figure people put stuff out on the curb for either trash pickup or hoping someone else might want it so it's OK.  Anyone else feel that way?

Anyway, I drove around the block, deciding if I should get it, where I could put it, etc.  Ultimately, I circled back around and picked it up.

It's a solid wood chair that has a really cool design to it.  It had been painted in a whitewash type of flat paint, which will actually work great as a primer.  I'm assuming they threw it out because the back of it has two small cracks, one on each side (someone must have leaned back in it one too many times).  It's nothing a little Gorilla Glue can't fix!  I liked the style, we need a chair in the master bedroom and besides, you can't beat free right?!

So, this will be my next redecorating project.  I'm thinking blue, the same blue I used for the dresser and end table in the master bedroom.  I might even leave part of it white (the back perhaps?).  After painting, all it will need is the perfect seat cushion.  Darn, that reminds me, I forgot to measure it for a cushion so I could look for one on my lunch breaks this week.
Oh well, I need to get it painted first.

Stay tuned!

That's a really pretty chair. I have been known to make U-turns to get a chair from the curb.

oh my goodness - have you not met my husband jambaloney???? the guy is a garbage getter extraordinnaire maniac!!!! bahahahahahahaha! we are big fans of reduce, reuse, recycle. in fact, our "big" garbage pickup here is in 25 days - i know this because he has been counting down for the past 50 days - bahahahah! he loves re-purposing things that others are throwing out. in fact, he's outside right now working on a door that he found in the garbage back in the city. he's putting a new pane of glass in it from a door that he found here. then we will have a beautiful brand new front door!

i love the chair and i love the idea of leaving some of it white. i will make sure to show this post to jambaloney - he'll be very proud that you went back and got it.

your friend,
kymber

Great find! When we go out either myself or my husband and we find
something worth while that we can maybe use or refurbish and it's free, I say the more the merrier :-) That's part of what I call frugal living.
I've been looking for replacment chairs for our kitchen table about 5 everytime we go out, lol.....
Have fun with your new find, make your own cushion using a recycled shirt or scarf. It's just a thought!

LOVE it! Before I read the part about putting it in the bedroom, I was thinking it might look good on a porch sitting next to a pot of bright flowers. Great find and I can't wait to see what you do with it!

Phew, glad I'm not alone! It's funny it was the shape/design that caught my eye. I made the block a few times and then stopped. Next time I'll just pull a uturn, ha. ;-)

That's awesome. I can't wait to see the door. It's neat to think that two different people threw away two different items and he's putting the together to make one fabulous new thing. Cool!

From now on I'll just say I channeled my inner Jambaloney!!! WWJD?? "What Would Jambaloney Do"!

It's a great feeling in the long run huh? I am definitely going to keep my eyes open more. Our neighborhood in town is an older established neighborhood and there are always things laying on the side of the road. Not sure what caught my eye this time, probably the white color and fact that it sitting in the grass on the side of the road made it stand out, ha.

I LOVE the idea of a make your own cushion. Thank you for that.

Oooh, don't tempt me with that. Hmmm, good idea there too. I think it will end up in the bedroom BUT.....now you've given me a reason to look for chairs: THE PORCH! Shhhh, don't tell 2nd Man, ha.

bahahahahahahahah! he's gonna love that!!!

as for the door - yep - he got one 1,000 miles away from here and we brought it here. it is a door with double-paned glass from top to bottom. we put it up in our kitchen and then one day last year when he was weedwhacking, the weedwhacker threw a rock at the door and smashed that side of the glass. so we taped all of the glass to the door and he has been on the lookout all over the island for a similar door with the right sized pane of glass and wouldn't you know it? - he found one!!! so now he is taking the glass out of one door and putting it into the other door and we will have a front door again - bahahahhaah! we've priced these types of doors and a new one is about $650!!! and to buy a new pane of glass is $250!!! so our new door is free all around - we love that!
