So here is the dining room, looking from the mudroom into it. Lots of stuff. I think a dining room table is the worst place when you move things in because it's a big clean empty space just crying out for things to be placed on it...
...but when you are done cleaning it off, it once again becomes a big clean empty space. And here is ours after I spent a few hours moving things out and put up where they belonged.
Here is a "before" angle from the back corner of the dining room toward the mudroom. As you see, there was a lot of stuff to put up. Some went to the barn, some went to the mudroom on the way TO the barn or trash and the rest went elsewhere in the house.
...and here is the same angle "after". That door to the right goes nowhere, we've sealed it up and I have a plan for it. Straight ahead at the other end you can see the "curtain door" that is closed to the mudroom. You can look in the before pic to see it open. I took off the tablecloth and the large vases we had on there just to see it empty for awhile before we decide what to do.
And here is the mudroom while standing in the dining room looking into it. Some of these were items on the way to the barn for storage. And lots of stuff on the shelves I needed to deal with...
And this is it, ore or less after. Everything moved out and I rearranged some things on the shelves, but I think we're going to wait and work on that later and figure out the best use of the space on the shelves. But at least we can walk around in there now.
This is the corner, the door that is open goes to the porch. Again, more stuff piled up waiting to be "processed" ha.
And it's emptied once again. Yep, they were empty once before but then filled up again as we moved items out there and all the other surfaces were full. Now we have a few more shelves ready for use.
All of this was done on Saturday. Sunday was yard day. Tomorrow I'll update on the yard stuff.
your beautiful dining room, table, chairs and windows and curtains make me want to cry with jealousy! but i am soooo happy that you got all of that stuff taken care of! your mudroom is bigger than my kitchen so you know how i feel about that - bahahahha! but what a sense of accomplishment when you get things done, put in place and settled. you're doing a really great job!
ReplyDeletesending much love to you both, as always! your friend,
kymber
(off to read your most recent post...i think i saw food! and you know how much i love food!)
Aw girlie, you are too sweet. Thank you for all that. Hope you get better soon!!! Love back at ya!
DeleteThose before and after pictures are amazing. Wow, you accomplished sooo much - in just one weekend! You could be a professional organizer with your great skills. Your Farmhouse is so beautiful again!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It seems it's easier to organize your own stuff, LOL! Thanks!!!
DeleteWow nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteWhat an amazing transformation you must feel very pleased with all that progress. So clean, clear. Light and airy....all ready for the Spring breezes to waft through your lovely rooms.
ReplyDeleteLast year I had all the living area floorboards sanded and polished, so everything had to be stored in the biggest bedroom, the rooms looked soooo beautiful with white walls , raw linen curtains and rich glowing floors it was very hard to put back more than a few pieces of furniture.
The more you put in a space the more you change the peaceful energy, so I am now decluttering some more.
Your after pics have been such a boost to keep me focused on clearing the unessesary STUFF and just keeping a few truly beautiful or useful things.
Well done you, what a mamoth effort in a day.
Light and airy, that's definitely the way it feels. It's also, like you said, light and airy on the mind and more peaceful. Less "noise" I guess. Thank you so much!! You keep it up too!
Delete"The life changing magic of tidying up" by Marie Kondo....very helpful and interesting. 😊
ReplyDeleteI think I've heard of that book...it is really popular right now? I will look it up. Thanks!!
Deletelike was said by someone above, your mudroom is bigger than my kitchen. I love it! Is the house big? It seems small but I'm not sure. Good work, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteWell thanks for that! It's not huge at all. Our whole house is right at 1000 square feet. It feels bigger because of the porch. But we have a small foyer, a living room (fairly small) a bedroom with sitting area, a pass through bathroom that connects to a small guest room, then the kitchen, dining and mudroom. It's cozy. :-)
DeleteSuch work, it looks so nice and peaceful. I love that table and chairs and the white walls and light coming in. Can you see cows and stuff from your windows? that's nice.
ReplyDeleteVeronica Maldano
Thank YOU! Very sweet. We're going to get some tablecloths to change up the look at times. And yes, actually I saw the neighbors cows from the widows, ha! It was peaceful!! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWell done you. Again.
ReplyDeleteegad, there WAS a table under all that mess! and such a simple dining table; I envision lots of second man dinner offerings being served there!
ReplyDeleteU R really making good progress.
ReplyDeleteEverything is really look neat and so very well organized.
As you get more settled in, you will find that you will be moving items and changing things around.
I must say; I love that plank dining table. Perfect for a farm house.
Peek-A-Boo, says the cow :}
wow...great job! i love your dining room!
ReplyDeleteSo what are your rates for helping others do the same amazing task. I've been wanting to go through all the stuff I haven't gotten to look at since I moved in 2009!
ReplyDeleteThe house looks wonderful, great job!
1st Man,
ReplyDeleteOnce again you've cleaned up another room. This dinning room is gorgeous, and there's plenty of room for company as well.
As for your mudroom, I would change that room into your pantry. Love all the shelves.
There has to be chaos before there can be order. Went through that when I removed everything from the pantry to paint. Funny thing is the paint job and the bathroom sinks were done before we ever considered that we would be selling the house this year. We figured then it was 5 years away. Amazing how one's thinking can go through such a sharp change. Is that what happened when you moved to your apartment?
ReplyDeletehmm, I like that, "the door to the right goes nowhere" Sounds poetic to me : ) Having moved and setting up a new household I found that it takes me about six months to a year to get a feel for where to put what..and that some accessoires that fit in the last house doesn't seem to fit in the current house. Different floor plan, different style of house..so those things I'll keep just in case we follow through with our plans to move one more time before we call it quits. Love the house that we are living in now but the location, neighborhood does not "fee right" You probably know what I mean by that. Will you be planting wildflowers seeds in the Fall for added Spring wildflowers beauty? Everything is coming together nicely..
ReplyDeleteScarlett
Wonderful progress.
ReplyDeleteMy curiosity is tweaked...the door to nowhere??? I need more information.
I do believe we have the same dining room table.
