2nd Family emailed us last week and said they had a new family member. "R" found an orphaned goat. It had gotten out into the road, in the freezing weather, the mother nowhere to be found. Somehow this little one survived. He couldn't track down the owners so he brought her home.
They put her in the bathtub with blankets and towels to get her warmed up and keep her safe. They have been bottle feeding her every two hours. They think she's a couple weeks old, maybe right around Christmas or New Year's Eve.
Geraldine the baby goat |
Here she is today, a week later. They've filled up the tub with shavings and have a heat lamp set up. She's doing great, though "J" said the bathtub will be a total loss, ha.
They have named her "Geraldine".
It's a yucky weekend. It's warm, even though this looks cold, and it has rained on and off.
Update on the farm tomorrow.
You do know that goats learn to jump early? They can Clorox the tub. I would sorry more about the blankets. It must be a hardly little thing to survive AND get out to the road. Cute.
ReplyDeleteLOL, oh yes, they have noticed her getting her jumping legs ready, ha. They have set up things around the tub to keep her in for now and "R" is building a special area for her in their barn/pasture (once it's warm of course). She is a survivor for sure so far!!
DeleteHow lovely. Huge welcomes to Geraldine and thanks to 2nd family.
ReplyDeleteThank you much I will pass that along!!
DeleteShe is a cute little thing and can help with the underbrush clearing when she gets a little older!
ReplyDeleteHa, great idea, "rent a goat" ha!!
Deleteawwww...how cute! it's really warm here too...blah!
ReplyDeleteShe'a a looker for sure (though she's no Winifred, ha!). I don't like the really cold but I'd like it to be cooler and less humid than it is now.
DeleteWelcome Geraldine! Bless 2nd families heart! Kindness to animals is always a good thing 👏👏👏😍👍🐐
ReplyDeleteThank you, I will make sure they hear this comment too. I think we should all treat animals which as much kindness as possible.
DeleteCute little bugger. Maybe they should have named it 'Lucky'. :-)
ReplyDeleteHA!!! I said the same thing!! I think their daughter named her and I have no idea where Geraldine came from, ha.
DeleteI feel goat cheese recipes coming soon. :)
ReplyDeleteOh we LOVE goat cheese. Never thought about that. I need to ask them what their plans are with regard to goats milk.
DeleteWhat a wonderful thing 2nd Family did in rescuing this adorable little cutie! Welcome to the extended family, Geraldine! After all this time spent in their home, she’ll be so attached to them that she’ll probably follow them around like a little dog.
ReplyDeleteIt was a warm day but quite overcast. I went out to the garden and picked some spinach for a salad, then a rain shower drove me back in.
I hope she can come up and visit us too. I can't wait to see her in person. Picture post overload, ha. It was a warm day but overcast. Had quite a bit of rain last night too.
DeleteSo adorable! So glad they found her in time.
ReplyDeleteRight place at the right time for sure. Thank you!
DeleteGeraldine is adorable and sorry to hear that it lost it's mommy but thank goodness and bless 2nd family for adopting the 'kid'
ReplyDeleteFor 2nd family they may need to set up like a fenced dog run area for time being. That little gal will tear up a bathroom real quick like as they like to chew on anything and everything. Keeping it confined in the bathroom for too long; I see a whole new bathroom remodel in their future.
2nd fam. going have to get another goat so that Geraldine has a playmate :}
