DINING ROOM CHAIRS HAVE ARRIVED

Nadeau Dining Table and Chairs
The dining room chairs have arrived!  Not a bad match considering the table was purchased last year and the chairs this past weekend.  These are all handmade of sustainable/renewable wood.  Once again, purchased from the awesome store Nadeau.  As you can see, the room is very narrow and long.  We don't really have room for sideboards, or hutches or other pieces of furniture, though behind me, at the end of the room where I'm standing to take the picture, a bar table will soon make an appearance.

Here they are from the angle where you can see the windows (there is one more window just out of view on the left).  The table really does look like it's been there for a long time.  Sort of fits the floors which, while resurfaced, have not be redone.  That will, if at all, come later.

As you can see, lots and LOTS of light in the room.  We're now finished with the furniture in there.  Now comes curtains, pictures, and my favorite part, decorating the tabletop.  I'm thinking a simple runner down the middle, and a few large vases or maybe one large vase (need to get that cutting garden going!).

I do have one question for suggestions.  What about a rug?  We're torn.  We like the look of the room without a rug.  As 2nd Man said, that makes the food/decor on the table the star of the show.  I like the idea of a rug though of some sort under the table to soften it up a bit.  I think a good compromise might be a rug that is all one color, like a lighter beige or cream color, maybe a shaggy rug?  Also, the curtains will be gauzy and white.  We don't want to make the room too dark, we like the streaming light considering we live in a cave in the city, ha.  I'll take tablescape suggestions as well.

So...all suggestions welcome!
Who knows, your idea might show up in our room, that's why we are sharing!

    1. Awww, thanks!!! Even in it's "undecorated" state huh? LOL! Thanks again...that means alot.

  2. Since the room is fairly long and narrow, you would have to go almost wall to wall on the sides of the table so chairs aren't half on half off rug. I would opt for keeping the floor as is with no rug, besides cleaning would be so much easier, just using a large like industrial dust mop.

You could add cushions to the chairs or a heavier valance over the top of the sheers to cut down on echo / hollow sound in the room.

    1. Wow, see, that's why I throw this out there. I never thought about that. Chairs pushed in, the rug would look great, but pulled out, they'd be bunching up the rug if it didn't go wall to wall. Then with wall to wall, you miss the character of the old floors. We're all for easy cleanup, ha.

I forgot about chair cushions, yes, those are on the 'decorating list' as well.

      Thanks!!!!

  3. Love! You could use the carpet tiles. The nice thing about those if they get messey you can remove them 1 at time to clean or replace if needed. Not to mention they come in a variety of styles and patterns.

    1. Oooh, I've seen those "flor" carpet tiles, that's an idea for easy clean up or replacement. Might check that out this weekend. Thanks!!

    1. Thank you John! We kind of like the simple look too. It makes life less complicated huh? We're going with roller shades for an old style look. Plus we'll be able to close them when we're not there for security/privacy. Then, when we are there, we'll roll up the shades and use some breezy, lightweight curtains. Stay tuned!

  5. Skip the rug. Clean up will be easier without it and the chairs will move easier on the wood than on a rug. We have no rug under our dining room table but then the floor is stone not wood.

    1. That's strange I posted this above just now and my clock says 3:47 but the post shows 12:47. What gives? Are you on the west coast? Not Texas?

    2. Hmmm, Marcia, not sure what's up with the time. Definitely in Texas! I've got my blog time set to Central, I don't know if it converts it or what.

As for skipping the rug, thanks for that. It's nice to know that that is a good option that others do. I will keep you (and everyone else) posted. The more I think about it and look at the picture I like the idea of easy cleanup.

    1. OMG, a man after my own heart! Ha. That's what I originally said when I saw the room. That was nixed, and probably rightfully so since there is no other place for a dining room but wow, great minds think alike! Hmmm, now you've got me to thinking about it again...what about some fresh herbs in pots, growing around the room? It IS close to the kitchen...and fresh herbs right at the table for dinner WOULD be neat...I'll see what I can work on!

  7. Great table and chairs and I would add a meyer lemon tree, perhaps in a corner. You can always take it out in the summer, but it looks like you would have wonderful light for it in the winter. Plus the flowers smell so wonderful and you will get lemons to cook with. I agree with herbs too.

    1. Oooh! I like that idea too...! Looking back at my first pic on the posting, I could totally picture a meyer lemon (or two) on that back wall of windows...Thanks for the suggestion!!!!

  8. I bought FLOR tiles a couple of weeks ago for living room (play room for a young grandchild), and I love them! They're designed to be connected with an adhesive dot on the corners, but I haven't done that, and they stay in place beautifully on the smooth wood floor. You're going to scar those floors quickly moving the chairs back and forth. That may just add to the character, but the tiles would prevent that. There are some beautiful new, subtle patterns.

    1. I just ordered a Flor catalog today. If I'm not mistaken I think we even have a Flor store in Houston that opened not too long ago. Yeah I was kind of thinking of the scarring of the floor as a possibility...

  9. Really lovely room with all those windows. I don't think it needs a rug because it is so perfect as is. Also easier to keep clean of you have guests who drop food! I can just imagine it with the sun coming in and the table full of food. Love the table and chairs too. (I still haven't got a dining table so am eaten up with jealousy - am eating off a small outdoor picnic table at the moment which is a bit crap - only room for 2)

    1. I think it will end being our favorite room in the house. I just love light coming in (of course, ask me again in the summer when it's 105 degrees outside, ha. Hey, you're stuff is coming along beautifully, you'll have a great table before you know it! Hey, what about a nice little metal table with a chairs, like a bistro table, just outside in your yard and you can have an al fresco dinner? Just a random thought. Can't wait to see what you do!

  10. We're fans here of no rugs. As someone else said clean up is easier and overall, things stay cleaner without carpets. Plus, how can you hide that LOVELY wood floor : ) I think you can still do the solarium too - hanging plants in each window would be fabulous! Whatever you do - that's a fantastic room and your table and chairs look like they were MADE only for that space! Nice job!!

    1. I think the general consensus seems to be no rug! We'll work on the table top decor, and the walls, curtains, etc, and then see when that's all done if the floor still needs something or if it's ok like that. Hanging plants are a GREAT idea. Thanks for commenting!

  11. I love rugs. And, I love something on top of the table - not a traditional "centerpiece" but some kind of art piece...yummy.

  12. Oooh, never thought about some art. Hmmm, will have to think about something. Thanks for the suggestion! And welcome to the blog! Please come back and say hi! :-)
