Use it up and Make it Do, vintage poster image courtesy of NY Public Library |
I'm glad there is a description of what's going on, because honestly, I would wonder what was going on in this vintage poster image, LOL.
It's from WWII and asked people to make it do, by repairing worn out clothing instead of,buying new...all because 'our labor and our goods are fighting'. I'm guessing though, it might be easier to take it off your body first, ha!
Good weekend here, nice weather and getting some things done. More later. And don't forget, the book giveaway ends tonight!
Yep, that's a weird one! LOL!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely!!
DeleteWhen the day comes that people take this advice, I wonder how many people even know how to sew or mend. Nice poster and sentiment.
ReplyDeleteGood point! I'm proud to say that while I'm not the worlds greatest, my Mom did teach me how to do minor jobs...she said everyone should know, male or female, ha.
DeleteGlad that you are having a productive weekend. Love that poster, and would agree with Linda. Many people simply don't know how to mend or repair. And many things now are designed to make it impossible. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteVery observant, so much stuff seems to be disposable, like if you can't fix it, you just get new. Sad. Cool (but odd) poster. :-)
DeleteI've always heard it, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."
ReplyDeleteBut really, such an odd picture.
That's cool, I like the phrase as you said, great rhyme and easy way to remember. Thanks!! And yes, picture is very strange.
DeleteMulti-tasking - working on the lawnmower and getting your pants mended.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Today it would be texting while mending? HA!
