BENCH AROUND TREE INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Every Thursday we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm.
Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and someday, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!

We've always liked the these benches that go around trees.  Wouldn't it be a relaxing place to sit and rest in the shade?  We've got some new areas I'm clearing that will have some places that would be perfect for this.  We know they can be built, out of chairs and pallets and such, but realistically, I'm not sure if I have that in me.  It might be easier to find, perhaps anyway, an affordable one online, even if some assembly required, ha.

Just such a nice space to sit, it lets more people sit without having to have a dozen chairs.  A place to enjoy the shade and a place to put items as well.  Veggies after harvest maybe?  A book and a glass of tea?  A blanket on a cool Autumn day?

Be inspired!

    1. These are great. And that's about the price we imagined that would be at the low end. Metal is nice but they are much more aren't they? The wood ones are nice. Thank you for this!

  2. Maybe you could try to find a craftsman in the area who could make it out of a durable wood that would not rot nor need to be treated. My trees suitable for this have roots in the way. I love the jug hung on the tree.

    1. Noticed that jug as well which well could be a jug of ole fashion 'moon shine.' :}

    2. Hmm, not a bad idea either. I'll have to ask around. Thank you! I didn't even notice the jug at first, ha. Moonshine, I like how Colleen thinks, ha.

  3. I think I would be looking for someone local to build it also.

  4. Hi 1st Man :) You know, I love the idea of benches around the trees. I love seating areas all over the yard...but here every area where you want to relax needs a bug net! Well, except in very early May and after October 15th-ish! Alex and I even thought about screening in the area where our charcoal bbq is lol...that might be slightly dangerous, but the bugs make it so unpleasant to be outside these days!

    1. We do have bugs that can be bad at times but it comes and goes. Much like the weather for eating outside, we'll have times that would be nice and I guess outdoor seating the same way, ha.

  5. 1st Man,

Love the bench around the tree. My only worry would be ants and spiders climbing from the tree to the bench.

    1. Oh yeah, didn't think about that. Maybe we could get a "swipe before you sit down" sigh, ha.

  6. I love the old iron benches that surround trees. Must be lots of them in Houston.

  7. I love this idea. It would create a wonderful destination in your yard - maybe behind one of the doors you talked about.

    1. Oh yeah, we have a great spot for one of these, post coming soon on that! :-). And while there is no spot for a door, I found a GREAT spot for a door this weekend.

  8. Everyone needs a giant tree to sit under during the Intense times of Sun. Certainly in the Texas sun or that of Colorado at 8500' where there is less atmosphere to block out a bit of the UVs. I've been attempting to propagate the various species of Willow along the creek to other places on the property to create windbreaks/privacy/ and some damn shade! - Cloud

    1. CLOUD!!!!!!!!!!! We've missed you! Yes, we've got a great spot with shade to sit that's not too far from the house and the barn and shed. It's where I stop the mower to just sit in the shade and cool off.

  9. Perhaps you could simply use 4 benches placed end to end, like a square. No, it wouldn't be a circle, but at least you could reuse the benches elsewhere, or place them in a different configuration. Plus, it's easy to find 4 benches alike. Just a suggestion.

    1. Hi!!! Wow, sometimes, pardon the pun, we can't see the forest for the trees, ha. Great suggestion if we can't find anything or just want to save money or do something different. That would be cool, thank you!

  10. I can't wait for you to build it ;-). The animal is a nice touch; I was confused about what it was, first glance-cow, second look-dog (?), zooming in.....sheep??

    1. Big black dog? LOL! Not sure. Sheep would be my guess. Think the staging of the whole scene is probably what caught our eye, ha.
