So yesterday at the farm, I thought I'd finally trim those bushes on each side of the front stairs. I did the first one, it went great. I started on the second one. Had trimmed about half of it when I grabbed a branch and didn't realize there was a wasp nest in one of the branches...
The first one got the top side of my right hand...
The next one hit the back of my left arm elbow...
The third one hit my temple...
The fourth one hit behind my ear...
Since wasps can sting over and over, I'm not sure if it was one wasp four times or multiple wasps. Whatever it was, they are dead. I sprayed that nest and killed all of them. Then in my pain induced frenzy I went around the house and sprayed every nest I could find no matter where it was.
The pain is pretty harsh for about 10 minutes. Then it goes away only to come back later. Today I have some swelling on the back of my arm, my pinky finger has tingling and the ones on my head are sore, probably because the skin is thinner on your head.
Good day to stay in and rest.
Update on the rest of the weekend tomorrow.
I always remember VW - use Vinegar for Wasp stings and Bicarb for Bees.

What about hornets?
DeleteGreat way to remember, VW and BB! Thank you!
DeleteAnd yes, I wonder about hornets too? Probably the same as wasps but not sure.
I hate wasp stings. I love the "pain induced frenzy". The last wasp that stung me hurt for about two hours before it subsided from a 10 to a 9. Do you keep a kit of necessities at the farm so you can treat stings? If not, now might be the time to get one put together.
ReplyDeleteThey are mean critters that's for sure. I think my pain went from a 10 to a 6 and I just focused on mowing and tried to forget it, ha. No sting kit, but brilliant idea. Thank you for that!! I could come up with a separate little "kit within a kit" for the first aid boxes. Thanks!!
DeleteI get stung a lot because I forget to check where I am sticking my hands when I work in the yard. Those suckers hurt, then itch, then itch and hurt some more. Sorry it happened to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to remember to be more careful. It's just so hard when you're in a hurry right? LOL! Yes, itch like crazy today but the pain is almost gone now (Mon evening).
DeleteI nearly lost a toe to a red hornet or red something. It was brutal. As for the finger, mine swelled up so much once, I got a box cutter blade to stab it to let the pressure off. Nada. Hubby said it is a cellular thing so no fluids came out.
ReplyDeleteWhat? Seriously? Yikes!! Did it get infected? I had swelling but it went down enough that I didn't feel like releasing pressure
DeleteOUCH!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, ha
DeleteOUCH. Oh, that had to hurt.
ReplyDeleteTreatment for a bee sting.
Honey. Honey may help with wound healing, pain, and itching. ...
Baking soda. A paste made of baking soda and water can help neutralize bee venom to reduce pain, itching, and swelling.
Apple cider vinegar.
Toothpaste.
Meat tenderizer.
Wet aspirin tablet.
Herbs and oils.
At home Treatment for wasps sting:
Wash the sting area with soap and water to remove as much of the venom as possible.
Apply a cold pack to the wound site to reduce swelling and pain.
Keep the wound clean and dry to prevent infection.
Cover with a bandage if desired.
Use hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion if itching or skin irritation becomes bothersome. Baking soda and colloidal oatmeal are soothing to the skin and can be used in the bath or through medicated skin creams.
You should also consider getting a tetanus shot within several days of the sting if you haven’t had a booster shot in the last 10 years. First aid differs based on what type of creature has bitten or stung you.
Ooh I haven't had a tetanus shot in ages. Hmm, a sting can cause you to need one? I will have to check on that. I love the info you gave, than you I will print this and develop a "sting/bite kit" like Linda suggested. this will all be valuable info. Thank you!
DeleteOuch indeed. I hope the pain/itching fades fast.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it hurt most of Sunday but today (Monday) has been better.
Deleteoh no...so sorry to hear this! i would be dead. i am so allergic!
ReplyDeleteYikes!!! You be safe too!!!
DeleteOh, ouchie! Those stings really, really hurt - I’ve had them and they are waayyy worse than a bee sting. Those on your head really concern me - please keep an eye on them. Hoping you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've had a couple bee stings since we have had the farm and yes, these are MUCH more intense. The head ones believe it or not were not as bad. Maybe more of a glancing blow perhaps. The hand one hurt the most, even my pinky finger was getting numb but today all is much better and tonight it's almost gone. So that's good.
DeleteYou are very lucky you are not allergic. Four stings would have had me in the hospital. Glad you are OK. Ice helps. Try whiskey/vodka/gin over it. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm very fortunate. I kept my phone near me in case I needed to call someone. Thank you and wow, you be careful too.
DeleteI'm sad to hear you've been attacked, I've felt your pain before so you have my complete sympathy!
ReplyDeleteIt's not pleasant at all is it? Damn wasps!!! Thank you my dear!!!
