COVID IN HOUSTON AND NOW CLOSE TO HOME

The news isn't looking good when it comes to COVID-19 in Houston...

There is a new variant and it will apparently be the what is causing the most cases everywhere.  Much easier to spread and more aggressive...

We're rapidly increasing in the Houston area...

We may end up working from home again in the not too distant future.  I have curtailed all going out at anywhere at lunch.  We're stocked up on food so I'll just order what we need and if I do need to go to the store, I'll hit up the small store out by the farm.  Fewer people out there, the store rarely has more than a couple people in there when I stop in.

And now, it's struck close to home.  Last week I found out my former boss and his wife are both hospitalized.  He was in serious condition but seems to be a little better (but still hospitalized).  She however has been put on a ventilator and is in ICU.  These are people I spent 16 years with, 40+ hours per week, week after week.  I watched their kids grow up.

It's been really tough.

Now we found out that one of our coworker's husband has COVID and over the weekend was taken to the hospital.  She was last in the office on Monday.  She tested negative prior so we should be OK but now of course we're worried for her as well since she's been taking care of him.  She is getting retested.

2nd Man also has a coworker who tested positive but thankfully hasn't been in the office to be around them.

Wear your masks people.

Do it for yourself and do it for others.  There's an end in sight but we can not let our guard down now.

  3. i am much more concerned about the new variations than i was about the original. i worry so much about my daughter and son in law because he is a chef and is still working in the biggest restaurant in this city.

    1. Yes, the new variants are disturbing. I already read an article that was saying they are wondering if there will need to be "booster" vaccinations later for the other variants. Sigh. Sending good thoughts to your kids to stay safe!

  4. Stay safe, you two, even if it means more isolation and distancing. This is definitely not a virus to mess around with! Here in Australia, we are lucky that the authorities really jumped on it and we are pretty much Covid-free now. People still wear masks in supermarkets and other crowded places, but life is starting to return to normal here...eating out, seeing friends, etc. Stay strong!

    1. I've read about Australia and how things are returning to normal. You all made the hard choices in the beginning and now it's paying off. Hoping we'll be there in six months or so.

  7. So sorry to hear about the cases of Covid coming to people you know and coming closer to y’all. Hoping you both stay safe and healthy.
Being retired now, I am fortunate to be able to stay home and limit my outings. With my town being only an hour from Houston, many people drive to jobs, shopping, entertainment, and doctor appointments in your city, so we have the same situation as y’all. Covid cases have almost doubled here in my county since last week.
Thankfully, I am stocked up. The produce from my garden and orchard are supplying my fresh fruit and vegetables. If I need anything, my local HEB does deliver. I have a double lot, so I have plenty of outdoor space to get some safe outdoor time. So for now, especially with these new variants, I’m just going to hunker down here at home.
    Masking is so important!!

    1. Masking is so important. It just boggles my mind that somehow mask wearing was made political. Isn't it wondering to have your own stuff growing to sustain you? I wish we were there but hey, in a few years we'll hopefully be more self sufficient. We use the farm now as our escape to at least get out of the isolation. Stay safe!!!

  8. I guess I'm glad I'm no longer employed so I can stay away from people.

  9. For all who have contracted coronavirus, we pray for care and healing.
For those who are particularly vulnerable, we pray for safety and protection.
For all who experience fear or anxiety, we pray for peace of mind and spirit.
For affected families who are facing difficult decisions between food on the table or public safety, we pray for policies that recognize their plight.
For those who do not have adequate health insurance, we pray that no family will face financial burdens alone.
For those who are afraid to access care due to immigration status, we pray for recognition of the God-given dignity of all.
For our brothers and sisters around the world, we pray for shared solidarity.
For public officials and decisionmakers, we pray for wisdom and guidance.
Father, during this time may your Church be a sign of hope, comfort and love to all. Grant peace. Grant comfort. Grant healing. Be with us, Lord.
This we ask in Jesus name, Amen.

  10. Our area has had low numbers throughout, but its catching up to us. Before December we knew no one who had it. Now it seems like everyone has it all at once! Thankfully, not severely but with this stuff you never know.

    1. That's what's so insidious. We too hear about those who have it and it's not worse than a regular cold...then others who are dealing with all sorts of major issues, some even months after it. Just crazy. Stay safe!
