PAINT COLOR OF THE YEAR 2022

Saw this online the other day...every year, the paint company Behr announces a color that they see trending on various sites and popularity in sales and come up with a new blend that they call "color of the year".

Sure it's a marketing gimmick but they do have a knack for picking up trends year after year and the colors they come up with do seem to be popular.

Here is the color on a door.  They named the color "Breezeway".  It's a silvery green that the description says was inspired by the sea glass found on beaches around the world.  They wanted a color that was sort of a fresh start to the year with "renewal, restoration and healing" being the feelings they wanted it to convey when you saw it (and we can all use that in 2022).

It is pretty.  We've always been partial to a shade like this (it's kind of a lighter version of jadeite, ha) and seeing this one, it does seem to evoke a sense of calmness.  With a pending remodel of the farmhouse (hopefully) coming next year, we could see this color used in a bathroom or the mudroom or laundry room...seems like it could be a good choice.

Do you like it?

    1. It does seem calming. Seems like a natural for a "wet area" like bathroom or laundry room.

  3. I do love the color ... kind of a seafoam green ... perfect for a bathroom!

    1. It is a variation on seafoam green. I remember back when that was popular, ha.

  4. It's pretty with the white trim, but it wouldn't be my first choice. I'm partial to blue...

    1. Blue is pretty too. I love both a dark blue and a robins egg blue. They are both good.

  5. I don't like it at all. It looks like the color faded.

    1. Hmm, I can see where that could be. We'd really have to see it in a bigger swatch, like a patch of wall, ha.

  6. It's undistinguished at best - blah! at worst. Roderick

    1. Ha, another no vote. We were wondering how many would like it or not. Thanks for the honest opinion. We'd definitely have to see it bigger before we said yes or no. We do have a large collection of jadeite but of course that's more green than this. We shall see how things go.

  7. The swatch reminds me of a slightly lighter tint of Restoration Hardware's signature color back in the day called Silver Sage. Are yall old enough to remember that? It was ubiquitous there - sheets, paint, candles.

This was before RH redid their whole look for the Highland Village store in 2011 & went with monochromatic Belgian greige for everything they sold for the next few years, of course.

I guess I should be grateful I've been blessed to stick around on this earth long enough to see a trend come back around, I just didn't realize it would be this soon!🥴

    1. Oh my gosh, we SO remember that. We LOVED Restoration Hardware back in the day (yes, we're in our 50's we remember it well). We could spend an hour or two roaming around RH (the old location and things they sold). They when the started changing and moved across the street, we were excited to see the new location...um, yeah, "greige" does define it. And also way higher $$$$. But you're right this is close to that shade. OH that reminds me, we did buy paint from them once, a pale yellow for our kitchen at the house (the house we sold). I can't remember the name but it came from there. We loved it. Yeah we haven't been back in years now.

  8. Yes - that's a lovely color. I might try it on my door.

    1. It's pretty on that door in the picture. Not sure if that's because of the white.

  9. It would be a nice color in a bathroom or laundry room. On my front door though, I'd love a cherry red color. My house is a white stucco with black trim and a black screen door (which I definitely need to have replaced as it's very old.)

    1. Oh, a white house with black trim and a red door is SO cool. There was a house in our old neighborhood like that, looked really nice.

  10. Funny you mentioned jadeite. That's the color we picked for our doors and storm doors. Doubt it will happen this year because we have the house painter from hell. A no show too often. We fired him today and he wonders why.

    1. You've probably seen our posts with our jadeite collection. That would be such a pretty color on a door. We've read your troubles with the painters, that's what makes us nervous to embark on the extensive remodel journey, but we'll get there. I hope you get yours done right and by a good person.

  11. Further to my comment, the color is in fact "eau de nil" (blog the term) and it has been out of fashion for a long time. Roderick

    1. Oh wow, thanks for that. I will do some googling on that color. Everything old is new again, even if it's not so good, ha!

  12. I don't dislike it, but it's not good when all that comes to mind is "meh." Or "at least it's not brownish-yellow olive green".
