I've reviewed our other two Lodge additions to our kitchen. It was the pizza pan reviewed HERE and then the baking pan reviewed HERE. We love them both and this one will be more of the same Lodge-love, ha.
This is the LODGE cast iron pie pan. We have used it a few times and it just works as amazingly well as their other products. The heat conducting ability and even heating all over is just astounding.
Lodge now has a "store" on Amazon.

Recently, he used it to make a chicken pot pie. You can see the crust cooked evenly and browned beautifully.

There is a nice wavy design molded into the cast iron that can help create a decorative edge to your piecrust. 2nd Man didn't need a guide since his crust for the pot pie needs to be higher up because of the filling.

Unfortunately, we couldn't turn it upside down to show you the bottom for obvious reasons, ha, but it was even and golden brown. No soggy bottom!
It has really just been a perfect bake, every time. He's made a pie in it twice (pecan and pumpkin) but I forgot to get pictures. Will do that the next time and reference back to this. As with everything from Lodge that we've ever purchased, it is a great cooking vessel. And of course, like all cast iron, if you take care of it, it cleans up like a dream. 2nd Man loves it!
That chicken pot pie looks absolutely Awesome and that cast iron pie pan; Fantastic. My first thought was making an apple pie.
ReplyDeleteI gotta get me one OR Need to whisper in hubby's ear to get me one for my birthday next week.
A person can never have to many cast iron cookware
Your birthday? Yay! Happy (early) Birthday to you! OK give me Hubby's number and I'll text him, ha!!! Yes cast iron is great because it's so durable and will last forever (if taken care of of course) and it's so affordable.
DeleteBeautiful picture of 2nd Man’s gorgeous Chicken Pot Pie! I can just imagine how delicious it tasted.
ReplyDeleteI love cast iron and use it all the time. (Even used it to cook in my fireplace during our Big Freeze last February). I need to get one of these pie pans to add to my collection. I like to make quiche but have trouble with the bottom being a bit soggy - sounds like this pan will prevent that.
Thanks, it was so good. Yes, I remember you sharing that you were able to use it that's SO awesome. We have considered that aspect as we embark on the early part of deciding what to do at the farm. Yes, it creates a great bottom crust. He used his same pie crust recipe that he has used and it was always hit and miss. In this pan, he's 4 for 4 so far. No soggy bottom.
DeleteThat's a lovely pan and an even lovelier chicken pot pie, which is what I want to eat now.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I’d love a pan like that x
ReplyDeleteThey are great!! Lodge cast iron is the best. Now of course we have more Le Creuset than I'd like to admit, and that's the best enameled cast iron, but for just raw, seasoned cast iron, you can't beat Lodge. We call it the Le Creuset of America, ha.
DeleteI don't if I'm just hungry or if it is that amazing but wow, that's the most beautiful pot pie I've ever seen. You are lucky to have someone who can cook like that! Janie
ReplyDeleteAww thanks. You know we haven't been out to a restaurant in over a year, and this is partially why we haven't missed it, ha. Thanks again.
DeleteI have been waiting for your review of this pan before I ran out to buy one! (or clicked to buy one as the case may be)
ReplyDeleteIt has been amazing. Really I mean nothing we have bought from Lodge has been a disappointment. It's the same awesome quality and even heating. He has used a ceramic pie pan it worked well, a regular pie pan, hit or miss, glass, almost always soggy bottom. When he used this he said he'd just have to keep using this. We might buy another at some point so we have two (cause, you know, TWO pies at a time ha).
DeleteI love Lodge! You can buy from their site, too. I don't have a pie pan, but I suppose I need one.
ReplyDeleteyes, their site we linked to as well. The thing we've always been impressed with is that their quality has never wavered and they keep their prices reasonable.
DeleteThat chicken pot pie looks amazing. I have a large collection but I do believe this is one that I need to add.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was very good, ha. There are so many pieces and a lot to choose from so we try to pick ones that we'll use and for sure, THIS was a winner for us, ha. Heck, even if we never made a dessert pie, I'd vote for just to have this pot pie over and over ha.
Deletei need this pan. i have switched over to using lodge for almost everything. it's all my grandfather ever cooked in and he was a great cook.
ReplyDeleteAren't they great? Our grandparents knew what was good. 2nd Man uses his Lodge often too. Between that and the Le Creuset, that's almost all he uses.
DeleteI've been trying to get my hands on a lodge pie dish for ages but to order from the USA is prohibitly expensive when you add delivery and custom duty. The only way I can find in Scotland is Amazon and I'm afraid I don't buy from them as I object to the way they exploit the people who work for them. My great hope is that one day Lehmans will open a branch here.
ReplyDeleteYou know I just thought it was available pretty much everywhere. If I ever stumbled across something other than Amazon that has inexpensive shipping overseas, I'll come back here and post another reply. Isn't Lehman's THE best? We're kinda glad they don't have a store near us or we'd be there ALL the time, ha. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI am no fan of Lodge cast iron. The pebbled cooking surface in their dutch ovens and pans is heinous. It's impossible to clean properly. Give me an 80-year old Wagner or Griswold pan any day! Their cooking surfaces are honed smoother than a baby's butt. We are talking the OG nonstick!
