GARMENT RACK TRASH TO TREASURE

Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want.  I've found quite a few cool items over the last few years.

Here's another of the latest:

This is a garment rack.  Now, we did look them up and the aren't that expensive to buy ($30 or so) but hey, someone discarded this one and it's in perfect shape.  Nothing wrong with it.  It's about 6' tall.

It has wheels to easily roll it around and it is adjustable up and down.

On each end, you can flip a latch and the poles will extend out further for extra hanging space.

We don't have a spot at the apartment for it since we don't have an actual laundry room, but we will at the farm and so it will be a great place for hanging our clothes as we move them from laundry to closet.

For now, it is in storage.

We can only speculate why someone discarded it.  Most of the time, we find it is just people moving in who don't have space in their new apartment or maybe they are moving out and just don't want to carry it with them to their new place.  Whatever reason, we'll give it use.

  1. WOW! What a great treasure.
They are really handy. Use to hang laundry or use as seasonal; storing / hanging summer clothes during winter months and vice versa. Great when you have a lot of guests for them to hang their coats /jackets, etc.

    1. Oooh great idea we never thought about that use too. Not just for laundry, it's extra "closet space" so to speak. Very cool.

  2. That will come in handy. You can hang up clothes right when you take them out of the dryer so they don't get wrinkled.

    1. Exactly. Growing up, one house my parents had there was a laundry room with a hang up bar and it was so awesome. This will definitely come in handy. Heck, I'd use it now when I do laundry to wheel stuff from the dryer to the closet but we just don't have space for it when "not in use". Someday!

  3. I would use that to hang clothes to dry and not use the dryer. Or, you could throw a blanket over it and make a fort. Well, maybe a tipi.

    1. Oh that's a great idea too. Especially for anything that's sensitive and needs to air dry or just use the air when the dryer needs a break.

  4. That’s a great find! It will be useful not only in your Farm laundry room but it will also be handy for drying out wet jackets or rain gear.

    1. Oh wow, see that's why we like posting these, more ideas we never thought of. Yep, drying wet clothes in the mudroom. I was thinking of trying to find something to attach or put on the bottom as a shelf/rack. This gives me ideas now too, thanks!
