DRIVEWAY AND SIDEWALK NEW HOUSE UPDATE

Here is one of the last things to do.  We opted for some concrete work in various locations (more on the other location in a future post).

The main thing we wanted was a place to park the cars and a sidewalk to the front porch.  This was a few days ago.  We hired the same concrete contractor that did our foundation to do this.  He drew out a plan and we said "go for it!"  He sent us this picture during the day so we could see.

Here it is just after the concrete was poured and smoothed out.

Here it is from inside the garage.  We had them make it a little wider than normal to give us plenty of space and it's 30' long to give more space that way.  We will park in the garage of course but this will be nice for unloading stuff and of course putting them there to wash and clean, including the farm truck.

Look at the awesome new flower bed I have!

If you click to enlarge, you. might see the two pipes they put in for us.  They are essentially drains so that the flower bed won't fill up with water toward the house.  It naturally slopes away so the water will also drain out and into the front yard.  Also makes it easy to pass things under the sidewalk, like cords or plumbing.

Oh the things that will happen here!  See the electrical outlet there on the wall?  I chose that not only so we'd have it handy for the driveway if needed, but also so I could have a water feature in that spot!  A fountain most likely.  Something with a gentle trickle or cascade.

It's going to be really fun to plan this out next Spring.  Well, I suppose the planning can happen this Winter and then the planting can be next year!

    1. We debated whether or not to do it and in the end, pulled the trigger. It was definitely worth it. And yes, can't wait to work on that.

  3. That area will make for a very nice flower / herb bed. Plants that stay green though out the whole year and bloom during certain times of the year. With the bed being close to the kitchen; a nice herb bed would be nice along with a variety of other plants as well, but don't want nothing that will get too tall.
Suggestion: Take pictures during different times of day for light wise. . . how much sun / shade it receives to help determine what kind of plants to plant Considering different texture of plants as well.
It's going to be lovely no matter what you decide. I do like the idea of a water feature of some sort situated there as well.
Enjoy your day and have a great week.
    Blessings 2 U both.

    1. Great idea, never thought about that, thanks for the tips. Not sure what type of water feature but some sort of fountain would be great. We just love the sound of water like that. thank you!!

  4. Fabulous idea and job well done by the contractor. Just curious; will you be having rain gutters installed off the roof line? If so, that new space would nicely contain a small rain barrel for easy watering all the lovely plants. Ours lives in a similar corner hiding behind a butterfly bush. Terrific for water conservation.

    1. Thanks. Yes, 100% will have gutters, the builder didn't do them as some people want to do something different so they don't handle that. We are currently looking for a contractor for that. Love the idea of a rain barrel, in fact have a post coming up about that idea. Thanks!!

  5. That’s a perfect place for a flower bed. It’s great that they put in drainage. It will be lovely to sit on your porch and have beautiful flowers and herbs to see and smell.

    1. thanks, and yes, the drainage was a great idea (suggested by our building contractor) for future yes and of course just for water to get away too. 2nd man is already asking about a flower box under the window on the porch. I think he might be getting on board with the plants ha!

  6. No rain gutters ? Rain containers to collect all that Free water supplied by Mother Nature for you to use to water your fruit tree orchard, flower beds, etc.
We have 3- 100 gal. tanks to collect our rain water that comes off the roof of the house and off the sheds.

    1. No gutters yet but coming soon. Builder doesn't do them because they said so many people do things differently and the same house on different sites can have water flow a different way. So anyway, yes wwe will have them. I like the water tank idea. A post coming soon about that. :-)
