SOME MORE APPLIANCES

We had some appliances delivered after we closed.  The first two were refrigerators.  We have always wanted a second fridge for the garage for extra space.  We found a Frigidaire model that was "garage ready" meaning it's made to be in the extreme temps of a garage (hot summer/cold winter).

This is it in place.  We put it next to the utility sink which is right next to the door going outside to the grilling/cooking porch.  It will be convenient for carrying food in and out to that area.

Here is the inside.  Now keep in mind, this is all refrigerator, no freezer space.  We just wanted to have the space for drinks and then a spot for doing our marinating and dry brining of turkeys/chicken.  Also, a space for fruit and produce that need to be refrigerated.  Should be very convenient.

Then inside, we got the matching (to our other appliances) refrigerator.  We decided we didn't want ice/water in the door; we like the clean look outside...

...and the extra space it gives inside with no ice in the door.  There is still water inside in the door, you can see it there on the left door, but we'll have our water machine in the pantry as well.  There is ice in the lower freezer section.  You might ask, you have lots of fridge space but what about freezer space?  Well, the lower one here will be for stuff we use regularly and often but you know me and my vacuum sealer and prepping food for later...

We got a second freezer.   It actually is the match to the garage refrigerator.  They are made to be used side by side if needed.  It's basic but like the fridge, this one is all freezer.  We will have a LOT of space for stuff.  We put it in the laundry room.

Our goal, between the pantry and our fridge and freezer space, is to get stocked up and then we will only have to go to the store for specific things.  As you can see, already getting things in here (unorganized, ha).  These are some of the things from the prior freezer (the rest is currently in the bottom freezer drawer of the main fridge in the kitchen).  Soon, the goal will be to get this organized.  Stay tuned!

And yes, for those curious, we are getting a generator to keep these three appliances running in the event of power outage.

We're getting settled in!  Slowly but surely!

  1. I'm speechless! That's a lot of fridge/freezer space to fill! I'd hate to be the one paying that grocery bill! Yes, it will take more than one trip to fill them up!

  2. Love the additional fridge/freezer space. DH has a large woodworking shop so our extra tall freezer plus an old fridge with freezer space on top is in the shop.
We get the occasional hurricane here and were once without power for 9 days following one hurricane. A generator saved our food in the house and shop and it saved the day, too! That generator is 20 years old and needed gasoline to keep running.

    Hugs!

  3. Very smart idea on getting a generator That will save $$$ if power goes out and food spoils.
I buy many bags of frozen veggies and bags of frozen fruit and using my Air Fryer I go into dehydration mode and then store in canning jars. Getting all them freezer bags out of the freezer gives me more room to stock up on meat products; especially when meat is on sale in some places.
I have the room to store canning jars on the shelf than storing all them bags in the freezer. I buy frozen veggies than canned; cause the frozen is cheaper than purchasing in the cans. Dehydrating fresh green beans adding just little salt (dry canning no water added)
Plant a large herb garden and think of the herbs that you can dehydrate and enjoy fresh herbs during them cold winter months; like going outside picking fresh.
Enjoy your day and have a wonderful and blessed weekend

  4. Just caught up on all your doings with the move. I've taken a break from blogging and reading for a bit. Glad to read despite the blips on move day you're settling in well.

  6. I am glad you bought garage ready appliances. I hear of people putting their old house refrigerator in the garage or barn and I am horrified. I once found an appliance that could be all freezer or all refrigerator. I had no use for it, but I was intrigued.

  7. An extra fridge and freezer is a great idea. Especially in your climate, where the heat isn't kind to food longevity. And I love the utility sink. We have one on our back porch and it's great. I only wish mine was stainless steel too!

  9. Lovely appliances -- I've never felt I needed a second refrigerator, but I could sure use more freezer space.

  10. The extra frig and freezer will be great to have. And the generator to run them in a power outage is another excellent idea. Y’all have thought out everything so well.

  11. I had a big fridge in my garage with fridge/freezer that wouldn't fit into my new to me house 14 years ago. I've just downsized and moved and given that fridge/freezer even though was still running it was 21 years old and I think applicances have come a long way in terms of energy ratings so I sold that and now I'm in my townhouse I bought an up to date 2nd fridge/freezer for the garage. I'm in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and it gets hot in summer so all our flour gets stored in the garage fridge for breadmaking and baking so they don't end up with weevils. Couldn't live without the 2nd one for drinks, meal prep etc as the kitchen fridge only has two small freezer drawers. Having one near your outside grill area will be great. 12. When our rather large freezer went out, I recycled it and now use it to hold all our paint spray cans and gal. cans of paint in.
Being you don't want to store paint of any kind in the changing temperatures the freezer/paint cabinet ; we left right in the laundry room.
New freezer is out in storage shed.
I just couldn't see having our broken down freezer sent to the landfill. Many uses for broken down freezers; refrigerators, dish washer, etc. Why send to landfill when it can be used for something else. Extra pantry storage, book shelves, use in computer room to store computer items, use as a gardening station, etc.
