ZEN MACHINE TIME

John Deere Zen Machine
Whenever I go to the farm and say I'm spending time on the zen machine, this is what I'm talking about.  I call it that because it's the most relaxing time I have out there.  It's just me, the John Deere X320, and the property...oh, and some headphones with streaming music.  It gives me time to think...

The path behind
...to think about what spaces I still need to clear and mow.  Then I look back and see what is behind, those are the moments I realize how much we've done.

The path ahead
...and sometimes when it looks like this, and I see the trails I've cleared and the perfect picture in front of me, I don't even think about anything in particular.  Instead, my mind just drifts away to another time in the future and the minutes pass by like seconds, fleeting moments that seem like images from a dream...

These are the moments that 2nd Man and I look at each other and say,
"Do we really own this?"  "Is this ours?"

Sure it still needs work, there are 11 acres to work with after all, but this is what makes it all worthwhile...and it's why I enjoy my zen machine time.

Update to post:  It's Saturday...we're at the farm, hopefully do some more of the above.  Hope you are off to a great start to the weekend.  When we left the house it was in the upper 50's.  Should be a glorious day!

  5. There's really no better feeling than looking back at all of your hard work, and imagining all the things that you'll accomplish in the future. The more you work at it, the better it gets. :)

    1. YES! Sometimes I get frustrated that it's not happening fast enough, other times it seems overwhelming but then I look at the pictures are realize it's actually coming along nicely. Patience is a virtue, right? Ha.

  6. It's wonderful, your place is like a blank canvas that slowly reveals a painting. Take lots of before pics (which I'm sure you do given the blog), take them before you do anything then you have your blank canvas to compare with your 'painted' canvas when your done.

    1. Aw, how sweet. Yes, definitely. Funny you mention the pics, I was just thinking that I need to go back to when we very first went out there to take pictures before we had done anything and see if I can match it up to the after photos. that will be a good winter project when I have to stay in, ha.

  7. 1st Man,

I love driving my Zen machine too. We've been looking at investing in the canopy that goes with the tractor to help with the summer sun next year. You have plenty of land now to keep you busy on this machine, and probably other machines too. Have a great weekend, and don't work to hard.

    1. Isn't it fun. Yay for you having one of your own. I have been giving serious thought to the sun canopy as well. There is also an outlet thing we can hook up that allows a fan to be attached. I think a canopy and the fan would be great next summer, ha. The only thing the canopy would be hard with on me is when I'm going around under some trees. I guess there is more without than with so it would still be worthwhile. Keep us from getting the arm and back of neck sunburn. Hope you are having a good weekend as well.

  9. After a vacation that was taking care of my 94 year old Dad while his full time nurse was on vacation and cooking and cleaning up after 8 adults, kids and grandkids, I think I'm due for some "zen time". He had a ball, and it was great to get my Bro's remaining family all together, but I'm ready for some quiet time.

    1. Bless our heart, that's a lot of work, but I hope you were repaid with lots of love and hugs cause that always makes it worthwhile. Get some rest!
