COUCHES IN THE LIVING ROOM

At last!  We have couches!  The fabric is what's called a ticking pattern.  It's a cream and white with some beige color and a tiny stripe that is either pale green or grey, we can't decide, ha.  This angle is from the foyer looking in to the living room.  The pillows have a nice contrasting white flower pattern that we might use for curtain inspiration.

Here it is from the kitchen doorway looking back toward the foyer.  As you can see, it's not a big room, which is why we had to find furniture that fit the walls and the space we had available.  We will still need an end table and a coffee table. Whatever we get, we will make sure there is some storage capability as well, like a coffee table with drawers.

Here it is from a slightly different angle, so that you can see how they relate to the other half of the room, where we put the bookcases a few weeks back.  It's not finished by any means, but most of the big pieces are now in the room, so it comes down to rugs, lamps, pictures on the walls, etc...you know, the fun part!

  2. I'm loving it! I so wish I could have a light colored sofa, but I have two dark colored shedding dogs. Love the dogs, so I have to deal with it by matching the furniture to them ;-)

  3. Looking like a real home now. Well done guys! I always find the hard part is knowing when it's "done" and when to stop. I saw a comment on a photo on someones FB page saying "WOW a blank canvas, would love to do that up" and I was thinking "WOW - such clean lines and just the right balance of "stuff" - I guess at the end of the day, it's all about what you love and what you want in your own home. Enjoy the fun part : )

    1. It's amazing what a few pieces of furniture can do huh? Yes I think the same way too, like the clean lines and more minimalist look. Of course it's a little TOO minimalist now, ha, so yeah the fun part begins now, ha.

  4. Lookin' Good! It looks like a home now! And I think you soooo need a chest to use as your coffee table. Not only would it be your coffee table , it would provide a bit of storage!

    1. I like the idea of a chest or something like that. Any kind of extra storage we can get would be great.

  5. Looks great! Love the cream ticking against the dark floors. What kind of art are you going to add?

    1. Yes, we were hoping for something light against the dark floors and the bookcases are dark too. Haven't decided on the art yet. We have a bunch of pictures in storage, all sorts of variety, some are ours we didn't have a place for at the city, and some were my parents and others were my grandparents. We put them up to sell at a future date, not realizing we might need them now. Good thing we didn't sell, ha. Stay tuned!

  10. The place is really starting to look like a home now. I think the books add that feel as much as anything else.

    1. You know, that's SO funny, I thought the exact same thing. When we did the bookcases a few weeks back, I thought that those alone created a homey feel. I liked looking at that 1/2 of the room, while the other 1/2 was empty, ha. Love books!!

  11. I love the couches. Well done!

Is this blog a "help me decorate" or "watch me decorate" or a little of both? I can't tell...LOL.

Try something FUN for a coffeetable...instead of the tried and true.

    1. Hello and welcome back!! Well, that's a good question!

Lately it's been decorating, ha. But our intent has always been to just sort of document our journey of buying a rural property (10 acres) with an old farmhouse on it and fixing it all up, the house and the land and creating a farm for us to retire to.

Last summer it was a remodeling blog of sorts...this winter it's been a decorating sort of blog as we get/got furniture and this spring we'll be into landscaping and gardening. Along the way, we'll cook, and can some stuff, and bake and do other crafty things. I wanted it to be a journey that people could follow along with and watch us evolve. And of course, I love asking for advice along the way.

Speaking of...funny you mentioned the 'fun' idea. We have an old door that was in the house before, the door was made of recycled wood itself and we're not using it. I'm thinking of putting some legs on it and making it into a coffee table. Stay tuned!

  12. Looking at these pictures and the others you've posted is like watching the house take on it's own personality and while it is so very different from what was there before (which fit the person) and looked so right, this looks just as beautiful and charming and fits you both so well. I am so excited to see it become it's own identity and can't wait to see it in person! (Yes! That's a hint!)

    1. Awww, did we ever tell you how much we love you? We do! Sorry blogreaders, had to have a little love there for a very dear friend. :-)

Thanks, it is evolving into our own thing huh? And yes, you'll have an invite soon, I promise!!

  13. That's a great idea! I used my great-grandmother's door as a headboard for a queen headboard. (did you know back then doors were shorter lol)

Why build legs for the coffeetable door? Everybody builds legs. Think...think, outside the box. What else could you do besides "build legs"?

    I'm challenging you. =)

    1. I've been challenged! I love it! Let me check out the door this weekend and I'll see what I can come up with. Might need to let it "percolate" for a bit, but I'll see what I can come up with. :-)
