US School Garden Vintage Poster |
Love this poster, it's so cute. Part of the Victory Garden program was a United States School Garden campaign. I love how this poster shows a very proud kid saying he raised 'em himself in his school garden.
I know some schools around the country today have gardens, but I really wish there would be some national campaign for gardens in more schools. It could help put the focus on better nutrition as well.
Enjoy!
We are friends with a couple of great farmers here in Illinois who are doing just that. Spence Farm http://www.thespencefarm.com/ is working so hard in our community to teach kids and adults how to grow REAL food. They also have great fundraisers where super chefs make awesome foods. But your poster...cutest thing I've seen today
ReplyDeleteWow, that's so awesome what they are doing. Went to their website. Tell them great work!! Wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteIt would be really great if kids were taught this sort of thing more. Some of my own nephews have no idea about growing food and don't eat any fruit or veg at all, ever. I am sure that if they grew something from seed and watched the process, then they would finish this process off by eating what they grew!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a shame that kids don't know about where food comes from? We occasionally hit a local chinese buffet, and I'm amazed when I see kids with plates of all brown and fried. Fried chicken nuggets, french fries, fried shrimp, fried everything...not a vegetable in sight. Ugh.
DeleteI'm with you, if they watched it from the beginning, they'd be all about eating veggies!
I can't believe they allowed that kid to dress so informally for this poster. ;)
ReplyDeleteHey, welcome back! Yes, isn't that funny? Heck it's probably how kids used to have to go to school, lol. Or maybe "farmer uniform"? ha.
