SATURDAY AT THE FARM

It was cold today, and gray and rainy.
Not much I could do outside...

Of course, it wasn't too cold for the neighbor cow...she was not interested in me until I clicked the camera...then she looked over for her moment, ha.

Cow
I did have these that I could put together...

...and so I did.  They are beehive stands that were delivered yesterday.

Metal hive stand
Here is what one looks like with the hive on it.  It lifts them off the ground and keeps them safer from animals.  They are made of powder coated steel so they will last for years.  And they look neat too!

Cows
We heard some noise behind the house and went back there to see.  It was the cow I saw earlier...with a few friends.  It's still so peaceful to walk around outside and have cows peering at us.

Pork medallions with asparagus, potatoes and gravy
All that was left to do was make dinner.  Pan grilled asparagus, pork tenderloins, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy.  It might have been cold and gray but it was still a good day in the end!

Hope you have are having a good weekend so far!

  1. Your dinner looks good...We had pork roast with mashed potatoes and pork gravy and assorted steamed veggies. Sadly, I have no cows to look at.

  2. Bee hives and cows? Bliss. Your dinner looks pretty good too - though I would give the pork a miss and double up on the asparagus. My partner would double up on the pork and give the asparagus a miss - so it works out quite well.

  3. I thought for a moment you had a cow for dinner...teasing. Things look green there.

Love that hive. We have ours sitting on an old washer. Works well.

    1. Ha, too funny. I'm wonder if the cow noticed the hungry look on my face?! ;-)

We are fairly green, the trees are still without leaves, but there is still green in the weeds/clover/etc.

    2. Oh, and hey, if I had an old anything at the farm I might have been tempted to use that. Whatever works is perfectly fine, I'll have to keep that in mind.

  5. Great looking meal; even this early in the morning.
We could use some warmer temperatures along with some thawing, as our yard looks like an ice skating rink. If I had ice skates and knew how to skate, I probably would go out and give it a shot and do some ice skating.
Being I can't do much outside, I decided to start planting some veggie seeds indoors. Planted some bell pepper seeds and hope to get some other things started today as well.

    1. Do you know that I've never been ice skating either? Just one of those things I've never tried. I know you all are getting the bad ice and stuff. Stay safe! And warm!

  6. Looks like the food was the hit of this blog posting. I wondered why I wasn't invited for dinner. I'm sure you had plenty to share. LOL

Congrats on the progress you are making on the farm. No outside work here with snow on the ground.

    1. It was huh? Oh we had plenty, and consider yourself having a standing invitation, ha.

We're still cold and wet but it's ruining the weekends, ugh.

      Stay warm and safe!

  8. Your dinner looks wonderful and those hives are awesome. Enjoy the warmer temps - it's in the teens with six inches of fresh snow up north.

    1. Thank you very much!! So excited about the bees. Just need to paint the hives (the outside only of course) and then get them in place and wait for the bees to be ready.

Yikes, teens? Stay warm and safe!!!

  9. I always love your cow pictures. The one of the single cow could be cropped and frame-able -- you really have a good photographic eye.
2nd Man’s supper - mmm, comfort food - that man can cook!!

We’ve had some crazy winter weather here lately, haven’t we - it’s as if Winter realized it had pretty much forgotten about Texas and decided to make up for it!

    1. Thanks, they are fun to photograph. Mainly because they just sort of stand there and look, ha. Easy to get a pose.

Isn't the weather wild (for us anyway) this season? More coming later this week.

      Stay warm!!

  12. Dindin looks good. Still have 3 months or more before the asparagus grows in this part of the USA.
When are you receiving your bees? And are you going back to bee school for more busy bee learning?
Can't wait to see some pixs of the bees in their hives. Hope your weekend was relaxing. And those Texas Longhorns are something else. In the middle of WI is a herd of them too. Find them fascinating.

    1. It was yummy. I want to get some asparagus growing here (this was store bought of course) but I hope to try a bed here.

The bees come April 17th! Yay! Can't wait. And yep, we are both going to a class at the end of March.

      Thanks!!!

  13. BTW--sorry for the duplicate post/ comment. I have no ideal what is going on...Those beehives and stands are very snazzy looking. We has pork chops stuffing and green beans for dinner tonight.

We don't have cows for our viewing pleasure but we do have the 2 dogs looking at us--rather pathetically-- through the babygate while we eat dinner. And of course, our cat Sam-Sam would every so often reach his paw out and tug on my pants leg during dinner, lol

    1. Blogger is like that sometimes, ha. No cows but hey, hungry dogs are just as much fun ha. Speaking of cats reaching out, have you see the video of the one knocking the glass off the table. I swear, cats have minds of their own and nothing we do will ever change that, ha.
