SATURDAY UPDATE

These were the skies as we left town to head to the farm.  The forecasters were off by a day, but we were determined to make the best of it.

Dark Skies
We got there and it was a bit lighter than the drive in but it was coming.

We brought the hives that have been in town since before Christmas and put them in the barn.  I took all the pieces out of the boxes and put them together.  They will need to be painted soon but at least they are out of the living room.

Then I spent about two hours running stuff back and forth from the house to the buildings...utilizing the garden cart made life much easier, LOL.

Mudroom Shelves
2nd Man is so excited.  We he now has an entirely empty set of shelves in the mudroom...space for more food, cooking supplies and things kitchen related!

The funny thing is though, I realized as I took all the stuff to the barn, there are no shelves out there!  I'll need to buy some and start getting places for things to be stored and organized.  But for now, the floor will work fine.

By mid afternoon, it was getting darker and darker and then the skies opened up and the rain came.  At least we felt somewhat accomplished for the day.

Hope your weekend is productive!

  2. Now that the barn is up and you have all sorts of storage.... won't be long and storage space will be at a premium. Don't ask me how I know. We are the third owners of a 1913 2 story home with walk in attic and full basement. Lived here since 1971. Now you know... have a fun weekend. Sunday, Feb 22 is to be about 0 here, maybe we'll hit a high of 2. Going to be an up and down week for temps here. Am hoping next weekend maybe we can level out. Hope your temps are better there. M

    1. LOL! I can only imagine. The first thing 2nd Man said was "how long until we fill this up?".

ZERO? As in "no degrees"?? ha. Definitely stay warm...just low 30's here.

    2. Have a couple who live in Houston and here. He just came from there and is enjoying all the snow shoveling he had to do. ho ho ho. She is a fair weather chick and won't make the trip in winter. Can't blame her. And, yes, that is "zero" as in no degrees and minus lately.

    1. YAY! Thanks, yes we are so excited. They are by Tuffshed and you buy them and they build them for you on site. They are so nice and we're so grateful to have them to put stuff in, finally.

Yep, beehives are very pretty, can't wait to get them painted (white) and get the bees (April).

      Thanks!!

  4. I bet you are so excited to now have storage and a proper workspace. Don't forget when planning your storage to utilize your rafters. (Just don't forget to check weight limits and reinforce if necessary)

I found some awesome ideas..where else? On Pinterest

  5. Shelves are truly wonderful things. Plus, fresh, new space is freeing. And, it is so much fun to fill up empty spaces without trying to figure out how to get things into a crowded space. You have a lovely, blank slate.

  6. Your 2 barns look so beautiful in that wide-open space! All that wonderful storage space! (Envy!!) I know it feels so good to now have everything in its proper place. Glad y’all got it done before the return of Ol’ Man Winter.
I took advantage of the warm day and dug up some carrots and picked some cabbage and the remaining broccoli. Only a few more weeks and then it will be time to plant the Spring garden!

    1. Definitely wide open space, ha. Ol' Man Winter is rearing his cold ugly head now huh? Yikes, possible sleet tomorrow morning (hoping it stays more to the North). Spring is coming, I think!

  7. Hey...I recognize those Ikea shelves - LOVE them. We have 4 of them in the cold cellar - they're cheap and hold a ton of weight (always my first criteria when I purchase a utility type shelf).

  9. I love the look of the beehives. Our neighbour has a couple of hives. They live in a sea of honey. It is truly amazing how much they get from just one hive. I can understand 2nd mans joy at a whole stack of shelves now available at his disposal.

    1. They are pretty aren't they? We're hoping to have a sea of honey, nothing wrong with that, ha. New storage space is always welcome huh?

  10. 1st Man,

I can see some special hooks, and maybe even a nice work table for you to work on inside the barn.
I'm so excited for you and 2nd Man, having the extra storage for outside equipment and tools is just amazing.

    1. Oh, I have a great work table ready and waiting (in storage unit) that my Dad built. I can't wait to unveil it, he made an amazing workbench, full of drawers and cabinets and it will just be so perfect in there. Other than that though, yes, I'll need all sorts of ideas for storage. Having a space for the stuff is wonderful for sure. Thanks!!
