GOODBYE PRINCE

Well this just added to an already sad week...

I hate when we lose our icons of youth...

Prince has left us, and the world is a bit less colorful.  Being children of the 80's, there is nothing more iconic than Prince and his music.  I had the fortune of seeing him live in concert back in the 90's.  Wow is all I can say.  One of my favorite memories.

I saw Whitney too...

And Michael...

Sigh...

RIP Prince

    1. Ruled for sure. But one awesome thing about music is that it lives forever. I have no doubt his music will be enjoyed for generations to come.

  4. all i can say is raspberry beret. the kind you buy in a second hand store. that's my fave prince song.

but you know what really bugs me? my father was trapped under the ocean 7 times during coalmine cave-ins. none of which ever made it to the national news. he went down as a volunteer to try and find/rescue the men in the westray disaster.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westray_Mine

although, he managed to save men in all of our local cave-ins, under the ocean, he wasn't able to save a single man in Westray.

this whole story went unreported....but we were put through hours and days and weeks of news about the challenger explosion.

Prince was definitely a musical genius and one whom i enjoyed. but too many unnoticed people die daily... and we never come together and mourn them.

sending much love, as always, to you and 2nd Man. your friend,
    kymber

    1. Sweet Kymber, thanks for this. First of all, I could totally see you in a raspberry beret...

Secondly, the news media is a fickle group for sure. I didn't know that about your Dad (and I too went and read that wiki entry, WOW!) but you know what? The heroes, those that do their heroism under the banner of anonymity, they are the true heroes, the everyday people that do extraordinary things. To me they, like your Dad, are our real life superheroes!

      Big hugs to you!!

    2. teehee. guess what? i have always had a raspberry beret...and when the song came out all of my friends said it was written about me about me - bahahahah! i'll try and dig through my old pics (actual pics) of me in my beret with a big madonna bow on it - but coming soon on our blog....my hot pink mermaid tail. i have always thought i was a mermaid and jambaloney got me a hot pink mermaid tail as a surprise for my getting my teeth out...something i was terrified to do. it won't see the river or ocean anytime soon - but it will see the hottub. and i, of course, will take pics!

thank you for the kind words. you know how much we love you both! always! your friend,
      kymber

  5. Definitely RIP. Such wonderful talent, I have listened to Purple Rain twice tonight. And Kymber, thank you for your Dad's sacrifices. It's amazing what the media choose to focus on or not. I will read that link for sure. Every generation has it's icons and it sucks to lose them. For me it was David Bowie. - Barb

    1. thank you for your kind words Barb! i think i went on a bit of a rant but i couldn't help myself.

although Prince was/is more my generation - david bowie never escaped my notice. i loved all of his older songs but "modern love" gets me up dancing no matter where i am. to me david bowie is a kingly legend whereas prince...was a prince. both were incredibly talented and their music will always live on.

again barb, thank you so much for your kind words.

    2. Barb - yep, Purple Rain is probably my fave. The songs are just timeless. I heard there may be 2000 unreleased songs in a vault at his studio. Ought to be an interesting next few years...And yep, love David Bowie too. Such losses to the music world.

Kymber - Modern Love, that song can make anyone move! Love it!! I like how you said Bowie was a king....see my note to you above about your Superdad! :-)

  6. I loved Purple Rain....the sad thing to me is that with all their fame, money, adulation by the masses they are unhappy, turn to drugs and die young! Is it the genius that burns inside or just the insane pressure of fame? I am glad I will never know the burden of celebrity status! Good Bye Prince....Sing with the Angels....

    1. I'm not sure. I hope his was (and it sounds like it might be) just a tragic accident of over using for his chronic pain. Nothing intentional and nothing to just do for fun but he apparently had so much chronic pain that he just used far more than he should. But we'll never know the pressures and burdens they may go theresuough (and not sure I'd want to, ha). RIP Prince, so this is what it sounds like, when doves cry....
