SATURDAY AT THE FARM

Yesterday was a good day, probably because I woke up to this...

...homemade pancakes with butter and syrup!
Now that's what I'm talking about!

We got to the farm and were greeted by the Texas lilac which is still in bloom.
Such pretty flowers, and they like our soil and climate, ha!

It was time to harvest what we still have growing, which is okra and jalapeƱos (and some herbs).

Several of you have asked how big the front yard is....well this doesn't give you the width, but this does show a bit of scale.  The veggies are sitting on the porch railing.  You can see up there at the top, that's what we call "snack corner", where Artax, 2nd Family's horse, comes to visit.  "Ma", who used to own our house, would go to that corner and share scraps and snacks. The area with their horse and fence line is their back pasture.  It's about 2 acres.  That horse remembers, ha!  That corner is a straight line down which is the driveway where we come in, the driveway being about a 1/4 mile long from the road.

I got some garden stuff done and a few projects as well.  One more day to go, let's see what gets done today!

  1. What a beautiful setting! I can see why whiling the time away in a rocking chair on the front porch would be a favorite pastime.

  5. Do you mean the horse remembers when Ma fed snacks or when you do it? That is a large front yard!

    1. Ha, I think she remembers BOTH! I'm just carrying on a tradition I guess. And yep, the "front yard" is huge. Lots of mowing.

  6. I think Artax is waiting for it's carrot treat. Have you ever given him an apple to eat just for something different?
Be careful of the heat, as it's a scorcher out there today. It is here anyway. I done what I could do this morning; potting up some plants, etc. but wasn't able to get my pomegranate shrub planted. Hubby bought it for me yesterday and knowing the hummingbirds, bees and butterflies love the beautiful flowers it gets.
Have a fun and enjoyable evening

And thanks for the kind words about the pics. :-)

  7. Great looking breakfast and fine looking harvest. Being from Canada, okra isn't a dish that is served. Will have to try it sometime.

    1. No okra? Yeah it's a Southern US thing, and not liked by many. Will have a post or two on it soon. Thanks!!

  8. When my GK's come to visit they always want pancakes and sausage and our milk and butter. Last year we bumped it up another notch with pure homemade maple syrup from another farmer friend of ours. Last week when their mother took them to Dennys for pancakes they whines about the quality. "Not like Yaya's" Yeah, my work here is done!

Love seeing bigger expanses of your yard. Thanks

You had a really good harvest of okra and jalapenos. Have you convinced 2nd Man yet to like okra?
Great picture of your front yard with Artax under the corner shade tree. So beautiful and peaceful.

  10. Hello!
Just a swedish minister dropping in to see the life over there! I have collected all sorts of contacts in the UK mostly, it seems to be a good time to add some more farms on my list. Yours is a real treat!!! Such colours, what love and joy in your work! Delightful, really! I am overwhelmed by the size of things even in a small farm, it took a while for me to even spot the horse.... Blessings to you!!
