FUTURE TREE STUMP PROJECT

When we had some clearing done for the new house, the guys also cleared an area near the power lines so we wouldn't have any issues.  One was a dead tree.  He cut it all down but it was late in the day and they were trying to finish up and he asked me if we wanted them to cut it down and grind up the stump or just leave it for later so they could clean up some other stuff.

I said to leave it for later.  He said it'll stand like this for a few years because it's deep and solid with no rot.  It's sort of died in place, ha.

We have been looking at it lately and realized there could be uses for it.  I did a quick google and found all sorts of ideas...

Flowers, though the top of ours is not quite wide enough, but this is still very pretty.

Just painting some art on there would be fun.

We've always wanted one of those posts that has signs to various places with the mileage.  That would be kind of fun to do and be a conversation starter, ha.

A clay pot tree is really neat!

Here's some more art, very cool.

We have things to think about once we move in.  This would be a fun weekend project.  I have to remind myself that in a few months, we'll be OUT there and project likes this, I can just step outside and DO it!

  1. turn into a totem pole or a Fairy / Gnome garden area. Could even mount birdhouses on it; something like your clay pot photo. Have it carved into a Welcome sign. Mount a weather vane or sun dial on top and decorate at the base with pretty yellow rose bed.
A person can do a lot with a nice looking stump like that.
Glad you have decided to keep it. Gives it character for your yard.
You both have a wonderful weekend
    Blessings to you both

  3. Lots of creative ideas for that dead trunk. Hard to select just one to try. I'll wait to see what you do to it. Are you marching on No Kings Day?

  4. I would be terribly tempted to do the direction/milage pole with places that are important to y'all.

    1. The signs are my favorite, too.

  5. I have always wanted signs on a pole. Many of these look like Banksy art.

  6. Make it into an old-fashioned Southern Bottle Tree. Attach blue, green, and other colors of bottles to the tree. From Google AI overview: “Bottle trees in the South are a fascinating blend of cultural tradition, folk belief, and artistic expression, offering a glimpse into the unique history and character of the region.”

  7. I've also seen the tree stump covered in decorated bird houses. My favorites are the signs (places important to you, where you've been or want to go, etc) and the clay pot tree. Though depending on how far from water, it might be a challenge to keep plants alive on that.

  8. I just happen to think. When they cut that dead tree down, did they run the excess wood through a wood chipper. If so, Free mulch for your fruit trees, etc. before they haul off the chipped wood.
By the way, I also like the sign pole. Will make for a good conversation piece
