Here we are!
2025!?! We were just talking about how we remember when Y2K was a thing, the rollover from 1999 to 2000 and everyone thought the world was going to end...and now TWENTY FIVE YEARS have passed on by!
What the heck?
But for better or worse, here we are, a quarter century older than we were back then, ha.
This time last year, I was only a few weeks past my heart attack, wondering what the future would hold. Now, here we are, one year later, with groundbreaking on our new house about to happen. This year will finally bring us to our dream of living in our dream house AT the farm.
It'll be a year of BIG changes but it's what we've worked toward all this time and we are ready to start our new adventure!
Periodically, I like to say I still don't have my flying cars and robots. For the longest time, it seemed robot vacuums would have to be it but...
...we are getting close to the robot part of that. This is one of several humanoid robots rapidly coming into reality. This one is called Figure 02. There are at least a half dozen others just as close and advanced. This model has the potential to be used in homes for chores and errands. Hey, maybe I can have one of these to help around the farm in a few years!
Two Men, a Robot and a Little Farm? 🤣
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Be safe!
I do not understand why you would want to use something that once again is taking away human jobs.
ReplyDeleteWell seeing as how I wouldn't hire someone to do my random chores around the house, this just seems like another tool in an arsenal of equipment one could add to their garage. How they are used in the future is up to society. If it is made to help carry heavy rocks or bags of soil or pull weeds in our flower bed, that's what we would choose to use it for. If they are used to replace dangerous jobs, repetitive jobs, etc, that's a good thing for society and I would think there will be other opportunities for people in other areas. It was once argued that the assembly line would eliminate jobs but they didn't and things just shifted and factories are still filled with workers. We can hope that humanoid robots will do the same and become another tool. One could also argue self driving cars might eliminate taxi drivers or truckers but most likely there will be a shift in the way those things are used. I'd personally rather pay to have a robot clean my house than hiring someone and asking them to clean up our own mess. But that's just us. Hope you have a good new year.
DeleteThose are just creepy! But, I am glad you are getting the house soon. I did not believe anything about Y2K, but there was only one elevator in town; I was not likely to be on a plane, so I felt safe.
ReplyDeleteHa, I understand. Hey, it's still a few years away (household robots like this, ha) so who knows. I remember my company preparing us for Y2K and we wondered and nothing happened, like NOTHING happened at all, ha. Happy New Year!!
DeleteWhat a difference a year makes! I am so very happy for y’all having your dream home built this year! And happy that you’re healthy and able to have this dream come true! Happy New Year! Wishing you both all the best in 2025!
ReplyDeleteThank you, as you well know, it's been a long road with bumps and setbacks but here we are, about to stick shovels int he ground and break it! Thank you so much and all our best to you as well!! Fingers crossed for a good 2025.
DeleteI've been following the humanoid robot revolution as well, we are indeed living in interesting times, there will be some amazing leaps forward it robot tech and, contrary to the first commenter, I think it will revolutionize the world. Progress always moves us in a new direction, jobs change and evolve, they always have throughout our history. Enjoy your blog and can't wait to watch your new home rise from the ground! John
ReplyDeleteWell thank you for this John. You put it well, change is always hard and not without risks. I think we're a long way off from robots taking away tons of jobs but we are closer to having them just help around the house, chores, errands, etc. If I could have a robot help me water, or pull weeds, whatever, that leaves me time to do do something creative. If I can have one carry the heavy stuff around, it's better for my health and keeps me from hurting my back or overstraining. Baby steps, right? Ha. Thanks again for coming along on the journey. Happy new year to you as well!
