MORE FRESH EGGS

We came home from a house showing last night and our amazing realtor had left us a dozen fresh eggs from her hens at their farm!

variety of sizes and colors from a variety of chickens!

Farm Fresh Eggs
She and her husband have a farm outside of Houston and of course they have chickens.  She said she wasn't sure if we'd like them.  Um, yeah, she knew us way better than she realized, ha.  Gotta love fresh eggs!  Between our realtor sharing her eggs and 2nd Family sharing theirs, we get the fresh eggs experience without having the chickens (for now!).

Hope you are having a good weekend.  We are dodging rain showers today...and it looks like some heavy rain is heading this way later.  We made a run to the farm to take a few things and check the house but are back in town now.

More later!

    1. I cannot post on this blog. So, I decided to use the reply button. I paid $4/doz. for farm fresh eggs when I lost all my hens. Eggs on the counter is a great thing to find when coming home!

    3. Linda, blogger had a glitch earlier today, affected a lot of blogs. Hey, comment any way you can, it's all good. Sorry about your hens, but I think you have gotten some more? Hang in there!!

  2. I love fresh farm eggs. Once you try them there is no going back. We are not 100% yet on whether we will get chickens next year once the construction is complete but it is certainly something we think about. I love how they are all different. :) Deb

    1. Same trouble as Linda. Had large white space for comment section but wasn't able to post comment so I also had to click on reply.
What lovely looking eggs, How very fortunate to be given fresh farm eggs. What a wonderful gift and very thoughtful of the person who gave them to you.
Shoot; who needs chickens when eggs are provided for you.....free of charge.
Oh, I see a ham and cheese omelette or even a Western omelette filled with ham and / or bacon, diced bell pepper, finely chopped scallions and lots of cheese.
Dang, it's making me hungry just thinking about it.

    3. Colleen, yep, there was a problem with blogger today, sorry about that. Um yeah, now you have ME hungry, ha. Sounds yummy. Too funny, 2nd Man said the same thing today when I mentioned someday getting chickens, he said "we seem to be doing just fine getting fresh eggs without them", ha.

  5. I don't know anyone who has chickens but from what I gather there is a pretty good cost for feed etc. Now that eggs are running $4 a dozen is it now worth the cost of feed vs the eggs produced?

    1. Seeing as how most (healthy anyway) hens lay one egg a day, I think it is. 2nd Family (who lives on property that butts up agains outs) has 8 hens and are getting about 8 eggs per day. So they are getting about 4 dozen per week. They let the free range and only supplement their diet with grain. I will have to ask them about that, how much it costs etc. Of course once you've had fresh eggs compared to store bought there is no comparison, ha.

  6. Great gift! We are raising our hens on organic feed. It takes a lot to get them to laying age, but the rewards, in my opinion are worth it. I want organic eggs and not the GMO medicated food regular diet gives them. Sure it is more expensive, but I know my health is worth it, too, plus I know how these hens are treated.

    1. I hear ya. As I was saying above, the taste is so night and day and then knowing that they are fed organically and without medicated feed counts for a lot too. Thanks!!

    1. Oh my, aren't they though? I have friends (and coworkers) that hate eggs in all forms, I just don't understand. They are sublime...and fresh eggs are amazing!

  9. Fresh eggs are fantastic! Fresh eggs someone else has gathered, even better. Fresh eggs without the bother of homing chickens is the bomb!

  10. I love those spotted eggs - so pretty! You ought to blow out a few of them and put them in an arrangement at the Farm.
I get Farm eggs from a local person also - nothing beats the freshness, quality, and taste.

BTW, I've been having trouble getting to the comment section also - for about a week. I have to click on Reply in another person's comments and then the comment section will appear where it's supposed to.
