TREE STUMP PLANTINGS, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

Tree stump planter, image via pinterest
We have a few tree stumps around the property, and I've often wondered if they would be better off left alone or if they could perhaps be used as something else.  I would have never thought about this but we love the idea.  Hollowing out the center a bit, adding soil as you would to any container, and the filling it with flowers.  How cool is that?

In a way, it's the ultimate in recycling.  Now I'm sure that at some point in time it will break down of course, but by then it has served it's purpose, as a tree in life and as home to flowers after.

Be inspired!

    1. "Lovely" is a great way to describe it. We have a few stumps and I was 'googling' ideas on how to deal with stumps and when I saw it I fell in love with the idea.

  3. The stump will eventually rot. Planting in it & keeping it watered will speed that process up. But, like Susan said, beats the heck out of digging it up!

    1. You know that's a great point. In a way it speeds up the process of getting rid of it and while that's happening, you get something pretty, ha.

  4. When the stump is unsightly and won't hold flowers, plant a vine on it. Let the vine go and provide bunny habitat. When my children were small, nine, and seven, and two, we had to have a large maple cut. I asked the guys to leave a two foot stump for my children. They loved it, but vines took over. I refused over the years to allow anyone to clean up the messiness. because we discovered a mama rabbit was raising bunnies there. Eventually, it completely disintegrated.

  7. Actually working on some of these. We have so many stumps here from trying to remove the dead trees the drought of 2011 left us.. sighhh a lifetime job if ever there was one. If there is one in a good spot I ask honeyman to leave me a bit higher stump so I can use it! We have some that we cut a while back and they are flat to the ground nearly but quite large around. I plan to use them to use them as platfrom areas, sit coal buckets full of flowers etc. on them.

    1. Oh, that's awesome! I hope you'll blog about it as you do it. Great idea to use them as platforms for buckets with flowers. I could see some clay pots on ours. Thanks for that!!
