Occasionally on Friday's, we like to end the week we have done a "Friday Food Debate" where we tackle some burning questions of the culinary world, ha. We have expanded it now to other fun and different regional uses of words in addition to food related words. Now we are adding to that by asking what is the "correct" way to do something...
This week, the burning question is:
We figured this would be a fun one to do. It's the age old burning question of which way the toilet paper goes on the holder. Under so you pull from the back and unroll it under? Or from the front and pull it over? I've done some checking and there is no regional difference for it. It's probably more of an age and/or gender issue we suppose.
Here in our household however, we are divided. I'm an 'over' and 2nd Man is an 'under'. It's the way we each grew up. When we used to put the roll on the holder, if I got to it first he would say I put it on backwards. If he did it first I would say no, HE put it on backwards.
But then we came up with the perfect solution:
A freestanding toilet paper holder. No matter how you put the roll on the spindle...
This direction, it's over and makes me happy...
Turn it around and just like magic, it's under and makes him happy...
We remember we had a friend over once and they said they had never seen a stand like this. I think we bought ours on Amazon years ago but they still have them, you can check them out here: toilet paper stand
That's the debate this week.
So which team are you? OVER or UNDER?
OVER...ALWAYS!
ReplyDeleteThe paper has to be over. Every place that I have visited the bathroom has had the tp that way.
ReplyDeleteI roll with the flow. :} Mine is always under, but now my daughters have theirs going over. Guess I just didn't train them right. :} They would come over and next thing I know my toilet roll has been changed so guess what; I now have a roll sitting on the bathroom sink counter for them to use however. Problem solved. :}
ReplyDeleteOVER
ReplyDeleteEx would change it to under. The children pulled off twice as much when he put the roll on or changed the way I put it. Think about it. How thick is roll? Well, that is how much further they had to reach. I want to be able to see the paper coming off and not have to feel around for the loose end.
Definitely over. If you have to reach under, you can touch the wall with your dirty hands...
ReplyDeleteI don't really care if it's over or under. I always put my t.p. in the holder myself so I don't have to agree or disagree with anyone else. I have one of those stands for Favorite Young Man's bathroom. It's doesn't have a toilet paper holder, strangely enough.

Janie
Under, always. Cats love to unroll toilet paper when it is over...ask me how I know.
ReplyDeleteUnder, but only because one of our cats (Sam) will completely unroll it if it's over!
ReplyDeleteOver!
ReplyDeleteAlways over and Walmart has those toilet paper holders.
ReplyDeleteUnder, if you have a playful kitten, over when the cats grow up
ReplyDeleteWe used to do over before we moved to this house. ?here we don't have a TP holder. The bathroom here was about 1/4 through a reno when we bought the place. Given that we'd purchased the place with the intention of addng on to the barn to live in and we're still not done with that, we've all along done as little repair to this scary little rundown house. We keep our TP in a big basket on a cabinet across from the commode, and just run the end of the roll over the edge of the basket. That said, the roll is on one end with the tail of the roll over the front of the basket so it just coils up and over.
ReplyDeleteBut we are totally both over people.
Always over and with 4 cats, only had one unroll it once and that was it, never happened again. I also think it looks neater over and having worked as a "maid" in a motel, it's impossible to put that little folded peak when it's going under. ;) Ranee (MN)
ReplyDeleteIn our old house, it was under because I had a dog that would unroll it if it if was over. But it's over in the house we live in now because the holder is set in the wall. Honestly, I don't care, just as long as the roll isn't empty!
ReplyDeleteGood morning. Over. have a safe and healthy weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe original patent shows it over. So I stick with that.
ReplyDeleteI normally do over. I was taught that way as a child. Remember tp printed with designs? Walk into a store and on the shelf, no the special order online needed. Anyway, if you put that under, the plain side was visible, ruining the whole effect. I also remember when you could also walk in the store and buy tp in colors. That said, if someone puts it on the other way, I'm fine with it - at least they changed it!
ReplyDeleteOh - and that issue people keep bringing up about cats unwinding it? That happened only once by a cat, repeatedly by DS when he was a toddler. Tried putting it on the other way, DS still unrolled it.
ReplyDeleteOver!
ReplyDeleteOVER, always! Janie
ReplyDeleteUnder. Now and forever. Easier to tear off.
