GOOD FOOD AND RODEO HOBART SUNDAY

LOL!  Here's some good and healthy food we had recently and of course, Hobart!

So we had leftover homemade BBQ sauce (healthy version) and the last of the pickled onions I made (hmm, time to make some more, ha).  So 2nd Man pan seared some Mahi-Mahi and we had it over a bed of mixed greens (spinach, arugula, etc) and then topped it with the BBQ sauce and some pickled onions. It was so good (and good for us!).  This fish really tastes almost like chicken so it worked well the the BBQ sauce.

We are enjoying all this fish in our diet!

We also love our vanilla Greek Yogurt, it's so versatile.  Here I dished it up and topped it with some fresh fruit and some graham crackers.  Delicious!

Since the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo started this week, we decided to dress Hobart for the occasion.  I put this bandana on him while he was laying on his quilt.  Um, it doesn't look like he was amused, ha.  So, we took it off and let him sleep.  Because...

    1. Right? But he was a sweetheart even after so he just has the look when he needs to, ha.

  3. Although I don't care much for seafood, I do like salmon, but prefer chicken breasts. I am just wondering if you do not like chicken much, or is this just a choice made only for health.
I suppose you now know how Hobart feels about the rodeo.

    1. Oh we are eating LOTS of chicken. We have not had red meat at all since we had steaks a week or so before my "event", ha. We eat lot of chicken, very lean pork, turkey and now seafood/fish (just had some shrimp tonight). Friday night we had roasted chicken breasts and the extras we used for chicken sandwiches. :-)

  4. This may be a rather dumb question. Is Mahi-Mahi fish close to halibut fish?
You always show such wonderful looking, delicious meal pictures; just like pictures you would see in cookbooks.
Poor Hobart looks like he is one pissed off cat and really doesn't give a hoot about the Houston Stock Show. Hobart; 'Just leave me alone and let me get my cat nap in.'
Have a Great evening and Enjoy the Nascar races.
That was an Exciting, Awesome race last week at Atlanta.

    1. It might be somewhat similar but I think halibut is denser and firmer and it more white fleshed, mahi-mahi has a subtle sweetness, more tender and has a pinkish color. I'd liken mahi-mahi to chicken and halibut more like pork. In other words, halibut is to Mahi Mahi like pork is to chicken, if that makes sense. We get the filets at Costco, individually wrapped/frozen and they are so good for quick meals.

Laughed at the Hobart comment, yep, ha.

Last week's race was insanely good. And our favorite driver won (Suarez).

Today was good too. Just ended.

  5. That is a really beautiful - and healthy - meal! It gives me an idea for my supper, using my garden lettuce and greens and some salmon.
Hobart looks so cute with his bandana! Even though he didn’t find it amusing!

    1. Super healthy and we really liked the bbq sauce with it, seems weird, ha. But of course just a nice salad with the grilled salmon and some good dressing would be wonderful. Hobart has since recovered from his humiliation, ha!!!

  6. My gosh your pictures are magazine worthy. And the food is restaurant worthy. Hobart has that royal "we are not amused" vibe, haha. Janie V

    1. Aww, thanks for that. He is making us some amazing healthy dishes, I just do good at the photography part, ha. And yes, Hobart was full of attitude for a moment then back to his sweet self. :-)

  7. Love Greek yogurt, too. I use Chobani (zero sugar-no fat). I like the strawberry and vanilla. I went vegetarian in August and have lost 51 lbs. Lots of walking, too. The Chobani is a large part of my diet. I toss some nuts in for protein and fresh fruit. I'll add I'm a lacto-ova vegetarian, which means I also add some dairy (hence Greek yogurt, egg whites and some fat-free cheese). Anyway, the Chobani is very healthy if calories are a concern. Good luck. Your meals look super healthy and delicious.
