Here's the one thing we wish we didn't have to do. We wanted outlets around the island on the sides. Well, there is a new national electrical standard that now doesn't allow that. It's a safety hazard. Something plugged in like a heavy mixer or a pot with hot water on oil, could be plugged in on the side and someone could snag the cord and put it off.
So we had a choice, do we want one or two? Middle, end or side by side? 2nd Man said just one. We won't have much on there at any one time. He would rather have the empty clean space. So we opted for the far end by where we'll sit.
They drilled out the hole...
...and installed it. It's flush (well as flush as can be, ha). It's white to "somewhat" blend in. You push it once and...
We were there just after they cut the hole and I snatched this up. For what purpose, I have no idea, I just wanted it, ha.

That outlet will be useful since it does more than just allow for a pot to be plugged in!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to October and the government shutdown!
I would like to have a tower of power in my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteIt will be great to have an outlet right there on the island! I’m a long time reader who rarely comments. This is such a lovely, well thought out home the two of you are creating! Thank you for sharing the ride so we can all come along. M
ReplyDeleteThe outlet is a good idea. It will be so convenient when you’re working on the island.
ReplyDeleteYou want to keep that plug If you ever have to have a "chip" repair in your counter top.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! You could set a small Christmas tree there and plug it in.
ReplyDeleteFound this very interesting. Way back at the turn of the century, we remodeled our kitchen and were told we were required to put outlets on the sides of our peninsula. I was adamantly opposed for just the reasons now given. The cords dangling around the overhang seemed super dangerous to me. We actually had to file for a waiver and argue our case at the local electric board. They apparently saw our point and we got the waiver. It's good to see a solution has been found even if it is not particularly aesthetically pleasing.
ReplyDeleteCheck the bottom of the basket to see if it is labeled “Longaberger”. Those baskets are quite expensive. That resembles one.
