CURSES FOILED BY THE WEATHER

You might have read THIS POST from earlier today.
Well, this is the radar image for the farm when we tried to get there.  The white circle has a "pin" that is the exact location of the farm on the map
(side note, I love weather apps).  For those curious, blue is light rain showers, the greens are moderate, yellow is pretty heavy storms, orange is very heavy and red is very severe.  Not sure what the dark red is...end of the world?  LOL.  We were about halfway out there and saw the dark clouds and checked the radar.  We were hoping we could beat it but alas, no way to do that.  So we turned around and came back.  Barely made it too.  Funnel clouds reported, hail, high winds, lightning and torrential rains today.  Here in town, we've had almost 2 inches in just about 3 hours and it's still pouring down.  Parts of Houston and surrounding areas have received 8 INCHES of rain today.  Great for the plants and water table, but bad for my weekend planning
(and can't see the fence in person, arrrrgh!).

Sigh, fingers crossed for tomorrow!

    1. I wish I could. And yes, no one needs this wind and hail and nasty stuff. Today was better. Thanks. Hope y'all get some much needed rain too!!

  3. The sky s falling! The sky is falling! Ummmm... I mean, I am really glad you and 2nd man out ran the storm. HAHA --love the red designation for end of the world!

It was gray, overcast and semi-menacing looking here late afternoon. The hubbs was able to mow the yard, weed eat and rake. The winds picked up for a bit but no storm. I prepped my 5 (4x4) veggie beds and weeded 3 of my 9 flower beds. And I feel like I was ran over by a truck. I am out of gardening shape...ugh!

I hope tomorrow is better and you can get your garden on!

    1. Thanks. It was a pretty crazy day. We even made the national news!

Today was good, too wet to be as productive as I wanted but I still got some garden on, ha.

    1. Yes, it was crazy. We get these storms on occasion. It's amazing how it rains here. It rained almost 8 inches in parts of town. In just a few hours no less. It's bizarre. Like living in a monsoon country. We stayed in town and inside.

  5. Whoa, that is scary. So glad y'all turned around and went back. Have you heard how your farm held up in the storm yet? I hope everything's ok there. I do not like storms.

    1. Everything was good, went out there today. Waterlogged of course, and muddy. Couldn't do much but all was good. I enjoy a storm that's not severe like that. I like some thunder and lightning and rain but nothing else. Thanks for checking in!

  6. 1st Man,

I'm glad you were able to turn around and get home safely. That bad weather you had, came up this way. It was very intense, with all kinds of hail. Everyone is okay here. The town called Anadarko had intense straight line winds, and hail. Causing some roofs to get torn off, trees and poles down. No injuries, thank God.
Be safe, and when you get to work on your garden again at the country home have fun and enjoy time with 2nd Man.

    1. I know exactly where Anadarko is. That was quite the storm we had here and I KNOW what they can be like up there your direction. I remember many a summer night spending it in the underground cellar at my grandparent's home. Thank you for the kind words, you are very sweet.

  7. Too bad about the wash out of your gardening plans. We could use some rain here.

Liquid fence is what I use to keep the deer out and away from the tender plant morsels they like to chomp. I sprayed it again yesterday on hostas and day lilies around the yard. It's supposed to work for rabbits too. Do you have deer trouble down there in Texas? It won't deter the wild hogs.

    1. I know, so many parts of the country are dry and we get TOO much all at once.

I have never heard of the liquid fence but I'd definitely be interested to see if it would work. Not too many problems with deer, 2nd Family has said that they have seen deer over the years but their dogs usually keep them away. As for rabbits, yes, I've seen them around and that's one reason for the garden fence. Hoping to keep them out. But if this would be an added deterrent, I might try it out. Thank you for the tip!

    1. She can can't she? We're kind of used to it, we rarely get small rains, it's more like 2 weeks worth all at once, ha. Houston is a very large city so it can be just one part that gets it all, it's very strange. Thanks for the wishes!

  9. I know you need it, so keep it down there! We are now expecting two nights of temps in the thirties this week! What the HEY??????

    1. You know ironically we DO need it, we're still behind in rainfall but getting it all at once is like huh? And yes, they have said on our weather forecast that we might get into the low 40's or UPPER 30's later this week. It's almost MAY. Crazy for us too!!

  10. Sounds like spring in Houston. I remember those. Sounds like a great day for baking and/or a book.

    1. Yep, we did a little of both! Spring in Houston is right. If it's not Spring, it's a Tropical Storm, ha.
