Vintage Garden Poster, Grow Your Own Vegetables |
This Sunday's vintage gardening poster is a neat one. "Dig For Victory"....For their sake - grow your own vegetables."
I'm not sure if the victory relates to the war and winning the war helps the children, or if digging in to help out, means that children will eat better? Either way, it's a message that, as often is the case with these, just as relevant today.
If more of us grew veggies, we'd have kids eating healthier.
More cauliflower and kale and less mcnuggets and french fries...for their sake!
Enjoy!
Couldn't agree more! We started eating locally, as much as we could, after reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. I love eating like this. Wish we ould grow more ourselves, but for now we have too many problems with deer! Thanks for visiting my blog. I love to find other Texas garden bloggers.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I was JUST working on a review of that book, just read it and it's awesome. Very inspirational. Hey, I figure whatever little bit we can do, it a step in the right direction. And your flowers are just BEAUTIFUL by the way. Love your blog (everyone go visit!). Thanks for commenting and visiting!!
ReplyDeleteIn the war there was a shortage of food. Especially in Britain where they had been importing vegies from Germany prior to the war. So it was a bit of a double meaning.People were encouraged to grow their own vegies as a way of staving off malnutrition and vitamin deficiencies which in children meant lots of problems. I love old posters like that!
