SUNFLOWER HOUSE, INSPIRATION THURSDAY

A sunflower house, image from Pinterest
We've always wanted to do this.  This is part of a trend of growing sunflowers and turning them into 'sunflower houses'.  I think it's such a neat idea.  Sunflowers are such a 'fun' flower and growing them deliberately in a pattern like this so as to make a small 'room' of sorts is a great idea.

Sure it's for kids, but hey, can't adults enjoy it as well?  I could envision a table and chairs in the center?  Or a rocking chair?  Or maybe, just like in this one, a blanket on the ground?  I've never tried growing sunflowers but if they would get this big, it would be an awesome sight to see, ha.

Be inspired!

    1. I love the way you think! Great idea. I might have to try this sometime. Heck, plant some, water then and what's the worse that could happen, you don't get them. but if you do, it would be awesome.

  4. That's pretty cool. I have to admit to a childhood fear of Sunflowers. Now that may sound rather strange but I grew some as a kid (as you do) and one day found that they were INFESTED with giant, terrifying earwigs (not my favourite insect). I've never dared grow them again!

    1. What? That's crazy. I'm sorry you had that experience. I wonder if that's an infestation that's common? Might have to research that before I plant them, ha.

  5. They are such a happy flower. I plant a couple in my vege garden just to brighten up the area and then later, when they die off, feed them to the chooks. We have a railing that runs along the house that the kids use to feed the birds. Just as much seed falls into the garden bed below as is eaten and they in turn germinate. Normally I weed out all the seedlings but this year I pulled everything except the sunflowers. They are all starting to open up now and I must say I like the effect. It's so bright and colourful.......and erratic. LOL.

    1. A happy flower is a good description. I love the way you let them just be random. I will have to remember that. I can imagine they are just lovely all around the house.

  6. Two miles down the road from me, a farmer grows about an acre of sunflowers - right next to the strawberry fields - and each year I take pictures of such a beautiful sight, it never gets old for me. Always enjoy the beauty. I am so blessed to live in Silicon Valley but live in the country; my last two miles of commute is down a two lane country road past horses, cows, open pastures to home :-)

    1. I would LOVE to see an acre of sunflowers I bet it's awesome. And strawberry fields must be pretty as well (when all the white flowers are in bloom. Lukcy for you, such beautiful growing area, though the drought has me worried for California.

  7. I've done this! I also created an entryway/ hallway of sunflowers leading in. It's a fun gardening activity. Sunflowers are just pretty weeds, and effortless to grow. The self-seed every year, and provide food for birds through the fall. Try it!

    1. I like your description of them as just pretty weeds. So true. But hey, I'm ok with pretty weeds especially when they provide so much color. I think I'll plant a few and just see what happens. thanks!!
