Prepare for Winter Now, vintage poster image courtesy of NY Public Library
Well now THIS poster is appropriate today (in the US anyway).  It's from the war of course, and because fuel was scarce, and needed for wartime efforts, the Government used posters such as this to get people to save it.  In this one, they are urging savings by getting the proper fuel, checking your heating plant to make sure it's running properly and working, and then of course, to insulate walls, ceilings, caulk cracks, etc.

In a way, that last bit of advice about winterizing your home is just as valid today as it was then, and for the same reasons; saving fuel and/or your monthly heating bill.  Conservation is key!

Hope you are warm today, as this posts, I'm prepping us for our part of the super cold weather that is coming our way tonight and tomorrow.

It's butt stinging cold here and are in the midst of a blizzard. These kind of temps are being twisted by the 35 mph winds out there, so it's feeling like -19 Yucky yucky yow yow !!

Yesterday was cartoonish, with people mobbing the grocery stores and gas stations. I stopped at the mom and pop market and got a few things, like garlic and such, but mostly just came home to wait it out. We're as ready as we'll ever be. lol

I'm in Georgia at a latitude not all that different from Houston's, and we're looking at 1 degree F tomorrow night. I didn't mis-type. That's ONE DEGREE FAHRENHEIT. We're being told that people younger than 40 years living here all their lives have never experienced such cold. And, I'm in a house built around 1925. We may have adventures here!

1st Man,

Stay warm my friend!!! Were at 14 now, and the temperature dropping to below 4 degrees here tonight plus the wind........below zero. Brrr..... We lost electric for a short time this evening, we have the sleeping bags pulled for below zero weather.

I feel for Sweet Kymber and Jambaloney up in Canada, they have to be mighty cold up there.

I know! I was actually happy when I found it, ha.

But stinging cold, I can only imagine. minus ANYTHING sounds unbelievable to me, ha.

Oh they do go crazy at the stores don't they? It's that way when there is a tropical storm or hurricane heading this way.

Stay warm!

ONE? ONE DEGREE? Holy cow, that's cold. Our house in town is old too, we've got water pipes wrapped, left the attic door open a bit, lights on in the attic, cabinet doors open around warm!!!

Yikes! You are so right. Scary that you lost electric. Of course, that makes me think in my head that you were prepped for that with sleeping bags ready for the cold weather. I might should look into those next year just in case. It wouldn't be bad to have them and just put them up (someplace mouse proof, ha) and then we'd have them 'just in case'. Prepping in plain sight, right? Ha. Thanks for the idea.

And yes, K & J, wow, I just don't know how they do it. It's SO cold. Sending warm thoughts their way AND your way!!
