2nd Man continues helping us eat healthy.
Here is a recent breakfast. He made whole wheat waffles, no butter, a little pure maple syrup, some sliced bananas on the side and two slices of turkey bacon. We found the Trader Joe's turkey bacon has the lowest calories and has ZERO fat. Also lowest in sodium compared to other brands. We still limit ourselves to once or twice a week but still only two slices each. We really like it and it gives us our bacon fix when we need it.
Isn't there a decent butter substitute that you can use ... waffles 🧇 have to have more then a couple teaspoons of maple syrup on them! They look delicious! Under 2nd man's care, you are going to get back to better then before!
ReplyDeleteHobart is looking quite comfy!!
Yes, I should have said I meant no full fat (but delicious) butter, we are using a butter spread that's healthier. Our grocery store, HEB, sells it. It's really good. And we do use a bit more maple syrup I think when I had taken this pic, it had soaked in, ha. Neither of us are diabetic so we can still use sugar, etc, just have to keep it in moderations.
DeleteIt’s a beautifully healthy meal but it sure looks delicious also!
ReplyDeleteHobart definitely has his staff trained to provide for his maximum comfort.
It was really good and taste wise it was wonderful. Didn't miss anything (well ok, maybe regular bacon just a bit, ha). And yes, we are his staff for sure. :-)
Deletehobart sure has a rough life! breakfast looks yummy. joyce
ReplyDeleteThank you, our pets are so mistreated aren't they? :-).
DeleteI get this butter substitute at my store that is so good, I'll see if I can get the name. It all looks wonderful. And Hobart, I mean, come on, you HAVE to cater to his every whim because that's what we do! Janie V
ReplyDeleteYes, we are using a butter spread substitute that we get at HEB. We still use it in moderation but it lets us have our butter fix without so much bad stuff.
DeleteI have a post ready to go about the problems with turkey bacon, so not aimed at you. I, too, eat things of which others disapprove. It really looks delicious. What kind of flour does he use?
ReplyDeleteLOL, thanks for the heads up, ha. I understand. I am on a heart attack forum and people were talking about bacon. Some still eat it just in moderation, others swear by turkey bacon, others just cut it off completely. This Trader Joes is better, low sodium, all natural stuff and has zero saturated fat as compared to the others we've found. But we still eat it sparingly. Two slices once a week, maybe twice at the most. Considering we used to eat a lot of regular bacon several times a week, we're doing good. I will look for your post.
DeleteOH! And we got rid of our white all purpose flour and only use whole wheat. He's using King Arthur whole wheat at the moment.
DeleteI am glad that you are feeling well and changing your eating habits. Sometimes comfort food will comfort you into a grave. But you might want to read up on fats, good fats, like olive oil and avocado. For me I have found adding in a little heathy fat keeps me feeling full so I don’t get too hungry. Stay warm
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy!
ReplyDeleteI went through a bunch of the American Heart Association cookbooks. The Low Fat Low Cholesterol cookbook is great. I made a hearty chicken stew from it last night. 😋
