Every Thursday, we like to post a picture of something we've found online that inspires us to do something similar at the farm.
Sort of our own blog bulletin board so that we can eventually look back and, hopefully anyway, recreate it...enjoy!
Halloween porch, image via Pinterest |
We've posted scarier porches before, we loved decorating for Halloween but haven't done it at the farm yet (mainly because the porch is full of fruit trees, ha). But when we saw this image, we .thought it was kind of interesting to have a porch that's Halloween-ish, but not scary.
In a way, what we like about this style of decorating is that with the lights, it could very easily go from Halloween to Thanksgiving and then with removal of pumpkins and the addition of some other things, it could become Christmas. But there are years we will do scary too... :-)
Be inspired...
Now I Love that holiday display going from Halloween right into Thanksgiving. I don't go into the witches, skeletons and all that other Halloween junk /stuff. This makes everything more inviting. A place I would like to visit.
ReplyDeleteUsing lights really set everything off and makes for a very nice welcome to one's home
That might be what appealed to us too. "Inviting" is a great word.
DeleteThat is very farmish looking. There is a store in town, very upscale and locally owned, that has decorations that go from Halloween to Valentine's Day with the removal and addition of some of the decorations.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean to post. The thing I like best about the porch is that the pumpkins are not all the same and perfect.

No problem, yes, there is a certain "farm appeal" to it. And it would be nice to move to other holidays easily like that. And yep, pumpkins should always be different huh?
DeleteI really like this look - it's so home-y and cozy. I like your idea of going from season to season with just a few changes.
ReplyDeleteI love the old screen door and the corbels on the porch posts. And also the old gate as a backdrop for the wreath.
Ooh, I didn't notice the old gate, very cool! That screen door is pretty neat too. We'll have to remember that. :-)
DeleteIt's beautiful and very restful.

"Restful", I like that description too. Thanks!!!
DeleteThat is not only transitional, but it is quite beautiful as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks, we hope ours will someday look as beautiful.
Deletei love this! i might do something like this next year. i need a change!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, your porches are the stuff of inspiration in any given year.
DeleteThe two ladies who live across the street from me were outside carving pumpkins last Sunday. They are adorable! One has a ghost for a face.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Aww, that's cool. We haven't carved pumpkins in a while. Might just have to do that next year. Thanks!!!
DeleteWhat a lovely idea to leave the lights in place and just change the theme of your celebrations.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has some of those tiny string lights that are battery operated and they are used for night lights in her little boys bedrooms. When they have barbecues at night they string them up outside and when there is a power outage they get hung from the ceiling fans in the living room with some additional strings.
If you can find some of these battery operated lights they would look amazing in a tree to be viewed from your porch....very pretty.
i really liked that part of it too. I could easily see this become Christmas and even winter/valentines. Battery operated is brilliant. Will have to look for those. Thanks!!!
DeleteI love our grain bin house but pics like this really make me miss our old farmhouse porch. One day we'll build one around the GBH but for now, like you, I'll just have to drool over other peoples porches.
ReplyDeleteThere's something so inviting about a farmhouse porch huh? I bet a porch around the grain bin house would look SO amazing. Would you do a curved porch? I think that would be amazing. We just need to get our porch cleaned up and have the exterior finished and then we can start doing something like this.
DeleteI see there are grapevines on the porch with lights on them. After the first of the year, people will be pruning grapevines...if you have grapes down there. Wisteria vines work as well. Or, you can buy a grapevine wreath and unroll it.

Great observation. I will ask around, or at least ask 2nd Family to ask around too. Unroll a grapevine wreath that's a good idea too. Thanks!!
DeleteI planned to put a corn shock by my gate after harvesting the corn. Some naughty goats had other ideas. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, I had to google 'corn shock'. Then when I saw it, I instantly recognized it. I had no idea that was what they were called. Learned a new word (or two) today, ha. And yep I bet the goats thought that was an all you can eat buffet, ha.
DeleteThis is simply gorgeous! I'm saving the picture and want to do this next year. We don't do scary decorations anyway, so this is perfect! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you saying that. That's why every thursday we like to post a picture of something we saw that we really like and then we can share an idea and someday, look back and remember how to recreate it, ha. Thanks again!!!
