WEEKEND REPURPOSING FINDS

Regular readers know that I have a new favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that you can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoors) near the loading dock for people to put things they don't want.

I've come to find all sorts of cool stuff.
And here are a couple more.

One find I had a few weeks back was a large shipping crate.  Now I found another, smaller one.

These are so sturdy and well made.  I just know I can turn them into something sometime.  This one is perfectly sized for putting legs on it and and making it a table.  A table we can store stuff in.  No room inside the house but it could either be used outside, on the porch or in the barn.

Then a few days later, I scored these.

These "Sunbrella" fabric pillows and cushions.  They are in perfect shape and don't even look like they were used.  Maybe someone just decided they didn't need them?  They might go well with the CHAIRS we scored last month when I get to painting them, or we could add pops of color to the porch rockers.

SCORE!

It's been a good weekend so far, still a bit warm, we are flirting with record high temps.  Where did Fall go?  Ugh.  We're in town today, have some errands to run, I need a haircut and then we are going to a favorite restaurant for a buffet, they will be decorated for Dia de Muertos, which is always so neat to see.

Hope you are having a good weekend!

  1. Big Score. SO lucky of you to be able to get such wonderful finds.
Paint your chairs white and them cushions would look great or even a couple of teak rockers for your porch and use them cushions for them and leave one of them other chairs in your garden area to use when you need to sit and take a break.

    1. They are great finds for sure. I like the idea of them in the garden, a nice pop of color and a comfy place to sit, ha.

  2. More great finds! I like the idea of making a side table from the smaller shipping crate - very creative. And I love those turquoise cushions and pillows - one of my favorite colors - such a happy color.

    1. A "happy" color, I like that. It is huh? We'll see what it all becomes. :-)

  3. Those are beautiful! If I lived where you do, dropping by the FREE SPOT would be on my daily agenda.

    1. I really should, I try a few times a week but it should be daily. Weekends though seem better, I guess more people moving in and out.

  4. Love the cushions and pillows, and how wonderful that you have a place to use them. I find out regularly that people get rid of items when they redecorate even if they are perfectly good. We have just used the last remaining avocado green towels we got when we were newlyweds. Too bad they are threadbare or they would look great in a vintage bath. All this time I thought you used things until they were unusable.

    1. Hi Anne, the charity I work for recycles old, worn out cloth items and is able to raise money selling it. Maybe you have a similarly situated charity in your area. Alison

    2. Good point, a lot of people do just get a wild hair, pick a new color and then out with the old in with the new. Perhaps a sad statement on our disposable society?

    3. Alison, that's such a great point, donations are always a good thing, to a worthy cause. Thanks!!!

  5. Amazing finds! The boxes are great; maybe the smaller one could be a serving tray? Sunbrella cushions are so pricey! You really have a treasure trove there.

    1. Oooh, a serving tray, never thought of that, but that's a great idea. Thanks!! And yep, sunbrella fabric is really good but really expensive, ha. Free is best! :-)

  6. Well done and I love your idea of the storage table. It's funny you talk about your missing fall, we are officially in summer tomorrow with absolutely no sign yet of spring. We have had only the odd warm day with almost daily strong winds throughout the entire season. The garden doesn't know what to do. Very strange weather!

    1. Summer! It's so crazy for me to imagine Christmas being hot. It always seems so appropriate to have (or at least see it somewhere) snow. And definitely cold. What does Santa wear for you guys? ;-)

  7. I have trash envy! Years ago when our dump/land fill was open I was there so much Hubby called me a "dump runner". It you didn't guess that is not a good thing to call me. The funny thing was the next week he gave me this beautiful antique vase. I asked Where did you find this? He meekly answered, The dump. Guess what I got to call him with much joy?

I adore finds like this. A tip for the box...industrial wheels can be attached with four screws. It would add another level of cool and make it easier to move. Just a thought.

    1. I also thought about using casters on them. That would make them really useable.

    2. That's is the funniest thing. I'm glad you got your payback. :-) And hey, an antique vase is a great score!!!

I like the wheels idea, thanks!!!

    3. Sol, thanks, that really is a great idea too. Thanks, we'll see what happens. Might make a great winter project when I can't do anything else.

  8. Yeah, like Gail says, very envious. Been looking for used outdoor cushions for some time. Apparently they are all in the south. I did score brand new chore boots for 99 cents at our local thrift store. of course I had to knock down three other farmers wives to make them mine, but them's the breaks.

    1. Hey, I'd knock someone down for 99 cent work boots! Survival of the fittest, right? Keep looking, they'll pop up when you least expect them. (usually when yo stop looking "on purpose", ha).
