GETTING HOTTER SOONER

What a week of weather.  We've been tying or breaking record high temperatures almost daily.  Saturday was hot and then Sunday morning we woke up to heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightning.

Hot or not, I had to mow on Saturday.  I skipped last weekend because we've been in a drought period and there hasn't been a lot of growing.  However, heavy rain is coming this week.  Next weekend would have been crazy thick if I had waited any longer.  It's not as green as normal and the ground has small cracks.

So here is the mow time from the app.  A little less than normal because there wasn't heavy grass to slow me down, but pretty close to average.

I mowed and edged early in the morning and then it was time to work a bit on the fruit trees.  I got a few projects done (more on that in an upcoming post) but it just got SO hot:

It was 95 with high humidity resulting in a "feels like" of 107!  Nope, not healthy to be doing too much in that.  Time to call it a day and get back to cool.

I took this picture before I left (you can see "Bill" in the background, ha), because the Vitex (also known as Texas lilac) is now in full bloom.  It is always so pretty and the bees absolutely love it.  We love these at the farm and they do so well, once they were established, we never water them and they are doing great.

Today is warm and mostly clear but tomorrow and Wednesday...

...we are supposed to have some fairly heavy rain, then sunny and clear and lows in the 60's (!).

Should be a great three day weekend though.
We'll take it!

  1. We where able to get our yard mowed yesterday and now this morning having just a light drizzle but will get up in the 80's. Actually may have a nice shower of rain Tomorrow & into Wed. Actually, we could use a nice shower only because I'm getting tired of watering my container plants.
Have a great day & enjoy your evening

    1. We didn't end up with the heavy rains, well they were heavy but quick and over, no lingering and no flooding.

  2. We will be having some rain and storms for a few days, so Tommy is happy because he won't have to water my flower pots. You are having some really warm weather. Maybe this does not portend hotter weather for you this summer.

    1. I love when I know I don't have to worry about watering. I fear we'll have a really hot Summer, but we'll see.

  3. In Eastern Washington we are the exact opposite. We have yet to reach 70 degrees in the Spokane area, breaking a record set in the 1890's. It has been cold and rainy, have to work fast to keep warm. We might reach 70 later this week. Nobody is planting gardens yet as it is still getting at or below freezing some nights. Crazy weather!

    1. Wow, that's wild. That is crazy, I had a coworker once who was from Washington and she always talked about how beautiful it was, cold and wet sometimes but beautiful the other times. Stay warm!!

  4. Your Farm always looks so pretty right after mowing – like a peaceful park.
I love that picture of Bill the truck, framed by the beautiful purple Vitex.
Looking forward to some more rain tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday. We really need it. And the slight cool down of temperatures will be welcome also.

    1. It's my favorite time after mowing. Hope you got a nice rain, we do/did need it. It was fast passing but heavy so at least things got a good soaking without the flooding.

  5. What has happened to your garlic? I started mine a couple of weeks after yours and am hoping my harvest is "better" than yours ... but you haven't mentioned them at all recently!??"!

    1. Hello! I have been meaning to poat an update it's still doing great, at least above ground. I don't know what it going on underground yet. I think the last two times we planted, we harvested in June so that's coming. I need to look at blog entries from before and see. It's been looking good, I water every weekend and then we hope for rains. Now it's been a bit dry this year so we're hoping the watering is helping the bulbs grow. I'll check soon and post an update. Fingers crossed for you and us!!

    1. Ours are bushes and I regret not pruning into trees. Not sure if it's too late for that. I'll have to check it out. The mower app is fun. You don't have to have a Deere (and heck, there may be other similar apps) I just know this one is free and has no ads and gives us the interesting info we like to have.

What a tragedy! Such a waist of beautiful young lives.
    Makes me so sad.
Thought and prayers go out to all those families

    1. It's just unreal and so horrifying and utterly tragic. Senseless. Sigh. Prayers to the families as well.
