Sunday is here again! I was able to get some Zen Machine time yesterday, more on that tomorrow, but for now, it's time for some good food and Hobart!
So in the grocery the other day, I saw these new (to us anyway) tomatoes called Kumato. I picked some up and grabbed some fresh basil and fresh mozzarella.
We sliced them up, wow look at this. They are a deep red brown color. Super sweet and juicy.
Sliced it all up and drizzled it with our favorite aged balsamic and some good olive oil. Caprese salad! SO delicious and a quick and easy lunch. Can't wait to be growing our own tomatoes and basil next year.
Hobart was watching me as I was eating. Side note, it's so cute when he's sitting like this, he crosses his front legs. Anyway, I shared a piece of mozarella with him and he was happy. We want to make sure he's happy because...

LOVE FROM ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN!
Your Kumatos look a lot like Cherokee Purple Tomatoes, a heritage variety. Used to grow them in NC; very tasty. Don't know how they'd fare in TX but it's worth looking up.
ReplyDeleteThat salad looks fabulous! Hobart was looking to have a bit more cheese then a little taste! I thought he was looking a bit judge-y!
ReplyDeleteThat’s a delicious looking salad, especially with the unique tomatoes. Hobart liked it too because he got to share the mozzarella cheese!
ReplyDeleteYou might try saving a few of the tomato seeds and planting them in a pot after they dry a little. They may or may not grow, worth a try, you might have a beautiful pot of tomatoe vines and some tomatoes. Some store tomatoes will grow from seeds some will not. They are picking tomatoes here in our town and I see trailler loads going through town to the packing house.
ReplyDeleteNo need to save seeds; just put a thin slice of tomato in a container topped with good potting mix / soil, with good drainage and cover the tomato slice lightly with soil and keep it watered. In no time you should see tiny seedlings coming up.
ReplyDeleteJust don't know if it will happen with this type of tomato but never know unless you experiment a little. If you try this experiment; best of luck to you.
Have a great and blessed day.
