Let's talk about a well...that's a pretty deep subject, ha! (couldn't resist)
Yes, we have a well, they came and drilled and completed it over a couple of days last week.
Here is a picture of the process...they arrived Thursday morning and started digging and drilling.
They came back Friday and installed the equipment and this is what it looked like when they were done!
Amazing how it was a mess of mud and water one day and back to perfectly normal the next.
Here is a picture to give you some perspective of it in relation to the house. This is the outdoor kitchen porch, standing outside of the back garage door.
The site manager reminded us to be careful, they have a live wire running from the temporary power pole to the well to supply power. This will only be until they get it hooked up to the house power and then they will run the permanent line to the well. He said "don't mow over it". Trust me, I will avoid that area like the plague.
This is the other direction looking back toward the house. They ended up going down to 260' deep. They hit potable water at about 175', but wanted to go deeper to get really good, clean water and of course, lessen the risk of issues with future low water levels during any drought periods.
We also want to get a well house or shed over the top and have reached out to a couple of places that can do this. We have to wait until the power is permanent and they don't need regular access so we still have a bit of time for that.
A water test was done and it was good to go. We'll do another one in a couple of weeks but for now...
Did they know they could hit water there or did they have to "witch" the property to find your water source?
ReplyDeleteWe weren't out there when they staked that off so now I'm curious. I've always been fascinated by that. Might have to ask!
DeleteWater is a pretty handy thing to have. Congrats on the new well!
ReplyDeleteRight? Amazing how it's just down there waiting!
DeleteWhen I saw it, first picture, I was impressed how like a robot it looked. I decided I would paint it! But, if it is in a well house, I might not bother because it would give a little fright if I opened the door. Our well house was tall enough to step into. When I had garden of sorts and chickens, I had to go into basement to hook up hose. So, I had one of the faucets installed next to chicken yard, the kind that is blue and about two feet tall with a faucet on top. It won't freeze. It was a miracle!
ReplyDeletePractical Parsimony
I would put stakes where you should not mow with police tape around it so I did not wander too far.
It looks wonderful and certainly nearer being habitable.
Oh I would have LOVED to paint that up. I've seen some fun ones (usually propane tanks) but yeah, it'll be in a shed. Great idea about the stakes. Hopefully it'll just be a couple of weeks and that's only two mowings (maybe one). Thank you!!
DeleteAwesome news on the water! I was wondering why the pressure tank was out in the open and not in the house, but then remembered - Texas...not often that freezing is a worry. But a shed would be good, as it might help keep the water cooler in summer without the sun beating down on the tank.
ReplyDeleteMost are put outside, there is some code about having them inside but even if we don't do that or can't, some people don't even worry about a shed (2nd Family has never had a shed) they just keep it all wrapped and insulated in the the winter. We're rather have a small insulated shed over it, ha.
DeleteIt’s good that they drilled a deep well. No contamination from chemicals and fertilizers. It would be a good idea to make the pump house big enough that you can stand up in it and easily move around to have room if it ever needs work. And insulated well. Also include a light bulb connection to turn on for really cold nights. I lived with water wells for 45 years. They’re great but need some care. There’s nothing tastier than well water.
ReplyDeleteYep, we paid for the "up to 260 feet" so they just kept going to the max to give us the best. We are leaning toward a 7'x7' shed. And yep, need that electrical connection for sure. We'll remind them of that. And yes, well water is so good.
DeleteWOW! They got your water set up for now anyway. That was quick.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your well. Now all you will have to do is build a well 'house' or have someone build it for you.
Ha. Sounds like you need to have another set of keys made; one set to leave out at the farm and another set to keep with you and put it on your vehicle key ring.
Well, we made it through them severe storms that went through in and around the area, but not without leaving some damage behind. Had hail and strong winds which means our roofing company will be coming out to check on the roof damage that was done earlier and not that long ago. During the storms we did receive 3 inches of rain within a 1/2 hour. Rained so hard that we could not see our neighbor's that live behind us; maybe a football field away; give or take a few more feet.....maybe.
Enjoy your day and have a wonderful evening.
It was so fast. They drilled on Thursday and it only took two or three hours and then the capped it and came back Friday and put in the tank and the equipment and then cleaned up the area and boom, on Saturday we were using fresh water from deep below ha.
DeleteYes, 2nd Man has already suggested the duplicate keys left somewhere at the farm (or at least one set in each of our cars).
Yikes about the storms, hope you have no damage at all. A new good solid roof hopefully held up well. That's some heavy rain too, yikes. It missed us.
Stay safe (and cool, the hot weather is here, ugh).
