COLD AND WET AGAIN

We were awakened at 1am Saturday morning by heavy rain and thunder.  You can see on the left, it was 38 degrees and we were in the middle of huge storms.  Very unusual for this time of year.  Then on the right, that's the radar image at 6am...still heavy rains moving through...sigh, it was cold and wet most of the day.  The good news is that Sunday is supposed to be clear and dry, but still pretty cool.  We'll head out to the farm to check things out to see if all is OK out there, since we didn't make it out there the last couple of weekends because of rain.  Hopefully it will be nice and we can check things out for the first time this year.

More Sunday afternoon.  Until then, enjoy this photo I snapped a few weekends back of this beautiful hawk Crested Caracara flying into the trees.

UPDATE:  TexWisGirl (who knows her birds!) said this looked like a Crested Caracara and I looked at pictures and it is what I saw.  They are also called Mexican Eagles.  Very cool, will have to keep an eye out for these beautiful birds and get some better pictures.

  1. The weather has been about the same here in Alabama on this Saturday. We have had tornado warnings, watches, and a tornado, maybe two, on the ground. However, it was around 65. By Thursday the temps should be 10 degrees...think that is what I heard. But, from tomorrow, Sunday, it will be dry at least until Thursday. I just hope there were no tornado deaths. When tornadoes hit in sparsely populated areas, the news is slow making it to the tv.

    1. I had heard about tornadoes, wow. You are right too, it's so sad when they hit in remote areast even if people are hurt, it seems it doesn't really make the news. 10 degrees?? Wow. Stay warm and safe!

    1. Ha, too funny you said that, I was JUST saying tonight "well, I guess I won't be needing that anytime soon" pointing to it in the corner of ht living room, ha. Wish I could send rain.

  3. Rain here too. Rather have that than snow. We would be buried if the temperatures were lower.

    1. Rain always better than snow for sure. Snow sure is pretty but not practical when you still have to get out in it. I always say that we're just a couple days from a downright blizzard every season. Like today...3" of rain but 40's. In a few days it will be 20's. That would have been a disaster down here for us, ha. Stay warm!!

  6. It certainly is cold today and very windy. And, since we’re going to get a light freeze tonight, I have to go out and cover up the tomatoes and peppers in my garden and also my cold-intolerant key lime tree - brrr.
Then pick some cauliflower for soup - the perfect warm-up.
Hope all is well out at the Farm. At least the sun is out today!
    Great picture of the hawk!

    1. I looked that up online and that's what I saw! Thank you! Too cool to have it identified. I assumed hawk but after looking at the caracara pics, it was definitely that. I updated the post and thanked you. :-)

Yucky Texas Winter weather huh? Stay safe and warm!
