FUZZY FAUX COWHIDE BLANKETS

Just had to share these wonderful blankets that we found at the store recently.

These are the fuzzy "faux" fur kind of blankets that are super soft and velvety.

Faux cowhide fuzzy blanket
The part we loved most about them of course is that they are faux cowhide print!  I know, buying blankets in Summer seems counterintuitive, but they were on sale BECAUSE it was Summer.

We found them at a local Marshall's Homegoods store, $10 each on clearance.  They're a nice size too (50x70) but unfortunately, they only had two and we thought four would be a nice number to have.

So I looked online and...

...found these (eBay)!

Two black and white ones!  Seems only right that the 'herd' on our farm includes at least a couple different breeds, right? LOL!

We got them for ourselves of course but also for future company. We were thinking how fun they would be for future chilly nights on the porch. So we folded them and stored them in a plastic zippered bag and then put that bag in the cedar chest in the guest room. They'll be safe in there for sure.

Now we just need it to get chilly.
Ha, that isn't happening ANYTIME soon...

  1. Ohmygosh; what a great buy and so cool looking. Love the cow patterns.
They will feel good and cozy while sitting on the porch enjoying them cool evenings.
I store my blankets in old pillow case so that they can 'breath' and then stored in my large cedar chest. Sorry to say; I don't like using plastic.

    1. Now Sir; if you do decide to remove your throw blankets from the plastic Do Not throw that plastic away. Save them, as they make great little green houses for seed starting. (more on that later)

Back to your cedar chest. If it's cedar on the inside you can just fold your blankets and lay them in there or store in old pillow cases. If your cedar smell is gone you can buy cedar chips and put a couple inside; usually bags of chips are found in the isle where the ironing boards, irons and laundry stuff is found. They also have some that you can hang in your closet. Cedar chips are also nice to put in your dresser drawers, etc. Honestly storing old quilts, blankets, etc is not a good thing. As they say; they need to 'breathe. (noticed I forgot the 'e' in comment above)

Now, back to your plastic. If you don't have old pans to line the bottom of your zippered plastic so to thrift stores and see what you can find. I have used old pie tins, baking sheet, round containers to lay in bottom of the bag; just something to hold it's shape.
When it comes to seed starting time, lay your pan to form the bottom and then set your seed starter pots on your pan, plant your seeds; mist with water, zip up the bag and set in warm place and you now have your mini greenhouse. If too much humidity builds up, just unzip the bag somewhat . You want the seedlings damp, but not soaking wet once they start popping through.

    2. What great ideas!!! Now I do have some quilts and things that won't fit in the cedar chest (it's big but not big enough for multiple quilts and every thing else. I have them in the plastic to keep them somewhat mouse safe (I know they can chew but with the plastic I figure I can "see" if there has been activity. But I'll see what I can do. If we were there full time we'd probably keep the mice at bay with just moving stuff around but when it sits I wasn't sure how else to keep it safe. I do have them up on shelves in the tops of closets, surely the mice can't scale up the smooth walls, ha.

Love the greenhouse idea too. Thanks!!!!

  2. Fantastic finds! It has been my observation that you just can't have too many throws, especially if you plan on entertaining house guests.

  4. Those are absolutely cute! I didn't think it got that cold in Texas where you live. Although, I had parties in my yard that lasted beyond midnight and some people needed a blanket in July. The rest of us were astounded and did not need cover. I would not keep them in plastic and enclosed at the same time.

    1. Oh yes, we have freezing weather many times. Lots of low 40's days/night in the middle of Winter. Of course no snow or sleet (well, RARELY) but yep, it's nice with a blanket.

Blanket in July? OK< I'd probably be astounded too ha.

  7. Those are adorable. I keep fuzzy blankets on hand in my office/TV room for movie watching during the winter. The office is the coldest spot in the house during what passes for winter in Florida. Willy Dunne Wooters is a lizard. He needs a blanket if it drops below seventy degrees.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Yep, I just knew we had to have both kinds. I guess there's not a third, ha. But I think four is enough. Heck it will probably be just us 90% of the time.
