SHIPPING CRATE TRASH TO TREASURE

Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want.  I've found quite a few cool items over the last few years.

Here is one of the latest!

Shipping crate

Found this shipping crate with the cover sheet of plywood too.  It had markings on it that indicate there was a painting inside when someone moved in.  It's a very sturdy box and large (about 4'x4').  It's also about 4" deep.  The wood is thick and solid.  Not sure what I can do with it but I'm sure I can come up with something.  I removed the nails from the top.

I thought about using it for something in the garden (in the future) with planting but it seems like it would be great for storing something in as well.  Currently, it's in the barn/shop waiting for inspiration to strike.

  1. What a great shipping crate. The base can be painted or stained; add some nice handles on it and you have a serving try.
The top; paint or stain and make into a sign for the farm; either a farm saying and / or pictures of sorts. Make into a Welcome sign and hang on the farm house porch.

    1. I overlooked the size of your box / crate.
Attach the lid to the box by using a couple of hinges and put on a knob or handle to lid and you have a nice memento / keepsake box; memory photo box, or whatever.
You can either stain or paint the box and lay a piece of felt on the inside bottom of the box.

Could turn it into a kitty bed for Hobart or maybe you will be able to find a use for it in your shed.

  2. You find the best things in that room. I’m sure you’ll think of something great to create from that crate. With it being 4 feet square, you could add some legs and make a table for an outdoor entertaining area at the Farm.

  3. My first thought was the garden. Whatever you do, I'm sure you'll put it to good use.

  4. Considering the price of lumber, you found quite the treasure. To me, it looks like the perfect size for a barn quilt hanging!

  6. Cut a few pieces of wood, slide them in, screw to attach, paint or stain or lay a piece of contact paper in as background and fill up those tiny little jelly jars you have (which I also ordered after I saw yours) with thumb tacks, paper clips, rubber bands, random nails, picture hanging hooks, emergency needle & thread etc. You do find the most amazing things!!!
