Last week we talked about the screened in porch, but how do we get out there you might ask?
A small door like this? Normally, in our floor plan, there is a door on the side of the dining room going out onto the porch and the living room only has windows that look out onto the porch.
We decided to make a change and we're having something special done.
Above is our floorpan.
From the family room to the screened in porch, we are changing it and going to have a sliding wall! Well, a door, but more or less, it's like a wall that opens. We lose a little wall space in the living room on each side of the standard windows, but we think a wall of glass is a good tradeoff for that, ha!
Here it is from the inside (minus THIS amazing view, LOL). This is from the company's brochure. They are double paned insulated and will be 8 feet tall and 16 feet wide from end to end. Each section is 4 feet and while they don't open the full width, when the two middle doors slide apart, we will have an 8-foot-wide opening onto the porch!
this is really wonderful and you guys are going to love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, we are trying to think of everything we want (and can afford of course, ha) to make it what we want.
DeleteI guessed the sliding doors right away ... What a fantastic addition!
ReplyDeleteWe thought so. They ain't cheap that's for sure, LOL, but when we saw them and thought "you know where this would work?" we knew we had to.
DeleteGreat to see things happening for you. Sometimes the anticipation and planning are just as exciting as when the real stuff happens. Enjoy, you deserve it! Got to say I'm jealous though.
ReplyDeleteLOL, hey you and everyone are along for the ride. And we can't even imagine once they pour the slab and the framing goes up, it's going to be surreal.
DeleteThat is fabulous! I think so far this is the most impressive aspect of your new home. I love the aspect of openness without the weather and bugs.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this. We hope it works the way we imagine it, ha. We can have a large living room space with a cool breeze (on those good weather days ha) and best of all no bugs (i.e. mosquitoes and flies!!).
DeleteIt is going to be a bloody nice house when it is finished
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks, we hope so, at least for us!! It's not a mansion but we tried to think ahead to things we always wanted to do and have, and we got most of them, scaled down a bit, ha.
DeleteWe had a sliding 2 sliding walls in our last house, one from the family and one from our master bedroom. They opened to a screened room with an inground hot tub on it. The hot tub was like a little pool. The one from the bedroom proved to be very nice, we had a privacy fence. The problem we found it was hard to secure. We had to get special locks. I love you letting us use our imagination and build this house with y'all.
ReplyDeletethank you, what a nice comment. Yep, everyone is along for the ride and it will get more real once we are able to move from the plans to the actual building.
DeleteWe'd love a hot tub at some point but it'll be outside. Time will tell. I might have to settle for a galvanized trough cowboy hottub or somthing, ha.
Brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! Once we saw the room on the plan and the space, it just seemed to be the perfect fit.
DeleteThe porch looks like it will be wonderful. I love a screened in porch. We put one on our house about 15 years ago and now have a cat which we can allow to go outside onto the porch where she can hear the birds and see them while being safe. We live in the suburbs, but have coyotes. Coyotes love to eat cats.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! We hope Hobart will be able to do the same. He's almost 19 so fingers crossed. And yep, coyotes out at the farm too. 2nd Family said almost every night you can hear them howling.
DeleteSo happy for you both. Absolutely love that extra living area. I'm sure you will be spending many hours on your porch, listening to the birds, watching the squirrels and seeing the deer running across your yard. All you need now on your porch is a hammock to relax in and maybe take a short nap in every now and then.
ReplyDeleteIt's all going to be one very lovely home once it's all finished.
You both have done a wonderful job in your decisions. Can't wait to see pictures once it's all finished.
Have a wonderful day and enjoy the remainder of the week.
Oooh, i never thought about a hammock. And we hope to be able to see deer all the time. I worry that the construction hubub will scare them away but I guess they'll eventually make their way back. Thanks again!!!
DeleteWow! Very neat.
ReplyDeleteThanks, we thought it was the perfect solution when we saw it.
DeleteI saw the post last week about the porch and I thought to myself I wonder if there is a bit door. I saw a magazine where someone had a roll up door like a mini garage door, haha. I think you will find you use that space more often than you think. Blessings! L Janie V
ReplyDeleteThat was supposed to be a "big" door, haha.
DeleteHA, we hear ya. Actually, once upon a time, we thought about those roll up doors but it wouldn't work in this style (that was when we thought about a barndo). We hope to use it a lot. So excited!
DeleteThat is a fantastic idea! What a wonderful view you will have. A much better way to access your screened in porch.
