Guess What?
We're going to have a screened in porch!
So, let's back up a bit. The floor plan we started working off of had a rear porch. We thought, oh, that's cool. Then there was an option to make it bigger and covered. OK, a covered porch will be nice.
Then we went to one of their homes under construction just to see how they build and the covered back porch on that one (not our floor plan) was in the process of being screened in. We walked out to it and even without the screens or door put in...
...this is what we saw. And we LOVED it. In fact, one of the owners of the company was there and 2nd Man told him, you should put this in EVERY model because everyone will want it, ha.
Here is ours (bigger than the one above):
We went back and forth on one thing though. Did we want the walls inside here to be the house color? Normally it would just be the house color since it is the back of the house. But since it's enclosed and "separate" in a way, we can paint it a different color. We were a bit worried that as a screened in area with a ceiling and walls, the barn red might be "too much" in a shady space. We did some research and found that yes, there are concerns on porches with dark paint color houses. One factor we didn't even think about is that you can see the color from inside your house and if your rooms are decorated differently, the red (in our case) can look out of place through the windows. Plus, there were the valid concerns about darkness. In the end, we decided to just do this inset part of the house plan in the white trim color...
We just think it will give us clean lines and leave a sort of blank slate for decorating. We will also keep the haint blue ceiling (same as the front porch) out here as well so that will be fun (blue sky!).
Speaking of decorating, we already have ideas...
We will still have room for some chairs or outdoor couch of some sort but that can come later once we move in. For now, we have to rethink what furniture we have that we can keep and repurpose, and these two pieces will be great on our new porch. And remember, I've scored some fun stuff from downstairs to repurpose and I'm already thinking about those pieces too!
Love that porch ... you will probably utilize that space more then some areas inside the house! Beautiful! 👏
ReplyDeleteI meant to mention the love for your dining room table! And then, that blonde storage cabinet ... OMG Both are so beautiful!

DeleteBet you will be out there more than you think you will, especially when the weather is nice (or even to sit there and watch it rain). What a great addition. When looking at the plan, I noticed only one door to the outside. I would have another door on the other end of the room, would make it more usable in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your plans are coming along nicely in making great choices.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend.
Oh ....it's going to be fabulous ! Love it already !
ReplyDeleteHave you considered making it a three seasons porch? Love ours and recently purchased a small electric stove (looks like an old fashioned wood burner) for chilly mornings and evenings.
ReplyDeleteI have a very fine weave screen on my patio, and it does not let the rain come in. It can be pouring rain and the patio stays dry. It lets air movement and dust come through.
ReplyDeleteyou are going to love that porch. we spend SO much time on ours. such an exciting project!
ReplyDeleteHave you checked the screen that keeps allergens out? I think it keeps dust out, too. Keeping the rain out sounds like a good idea, too. Love the furniture!
ReplyDeleteA large screened-in back porch - it will be a wonderful and much-used area! The white walls with the haint blue ceiling will be beautiful! I Love that piece of storage furniture! It will be perfect for the porch.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a proper farmhouse without a screened porch! You will love it. We've no space, but we have morning coffee on ours, and often a glass of wine or other beverage in the evening as ours faces west and we can enjoy the sunset. It's the perfect place to relax, bug-free. Southern necessity!
ReplyDeleteThe only suggestion I have for you is to invest in 2 ceiling fans, one at either end of the porch. Your porch is larger than ours and our contractor suggested both fans , even though we have less square footage. It was a wonderful suggestion and except for those insanely hot days, we can sit out there at. night and have air flow from both directions. Whether we are eating or in the sitting area, we have moving air.
ReplyDeleteYou will love that porch. One thing I truly miss from The Lodge.
ReplyDeleteOnly TWO outlets??? Maybe they each have four outlets available in them....
ReplyDeleteI second the "only 2 outlets?!" comment. Consider you might need a lamp or two for evening reading, small appliances if dining out there, seasonal decorations, etc. I do like the choice for white walls with the blue ceiling. It's easier to darken a room with wall hangings or art on the walls if needed than to make it lighter.
