SOUTHERN LEOPARD FROG

Spotted this little guy or gal at the farm a couple of weekends ago.
We have seen quite a few frogs over the last few years but we have never seen one like this...

Do you see it there?
Hidden down in the shadows and leaves?

Here it is!
It's called a Southern Leopard Frog.

Such beautiful creatures.
Isn't nature wonderful?

Any frog fans out there?

  1. How handsome it is.
If you have the opportunity, provide some shallow freshwater; just something so it has something to swim in

    1. Thanks, will definitely do that. I think it's enjoying under the house since when I water the plants on the porch it makes nice puddles but I'll look for something more permanent, thanks!!

  2. Wow, that frog is a master at camouflage! I just love frogs - I have several ceramic and concrete frogs scattered throughout my yard. I also love that frogs are so helpful in the garden, eating the bad-ies. I keep a water container by my water faucet, with a rock in it for easy in-and-out, for the frogs, toads, and lizards in my yard.
Thank you for reminding us, with your gorgeous pictures, to slow down and enjoy all the beauties of nature.

    1. I know, that's crazy huh? Nature finds a way! Thanks for the sweet comment. We do need to stop and smell the roses from time to time. :-)

  3. What a beauty. I do love frogs and in this dry place we rarely see them. Thanks.

  4. It depends. I don't want to touch a frog. And, I hate them when they are croaking under my bedroom window! Other than those two circumstances, frogs are okay. I even have a toad abode for them. My brother and father fried frog legs for eating.

    1. They can be loud huh? Especially in large numbers, ha. I've seen some homemade toad houses, will have to look into that. Thanks!!

  5. I love the sound frogs make. We sit on the deck at night to listen to them. During the mating season they are exceptionally busy singing to each other.

    1. They are loud for sure, but it's sometimes one of those background noises like crickets....

  6. What a lovely little frog, if you have frogs your yard is a healthy environment indicator, they have very sensitive skin so are the first to leave if there are toxic chemicals around.
I often have frogs living in the water wells of my self watering pot plants , safe, cool, damp or wet conditions are just perfect.
If you set up a pond or large water pot for frog habitat it is a good idea to provide a cheap solar lantern , it will attract insects after dark and encourage the frogs to live there.
Thanks for the fantastic pic, have fun with more nature photography.

    1. Well that's good to know, thanks. I do see all sorts of frogs while mowing (though this one was a new variety). Good to know! And what a great idea for attracting bugs for the frogs. Thanks!!!

  7. Mr. Toad, who might be a Southern Leopard Frog, has not spent his evenings lounging on my deck for a few weeks now. We're getting worried about him. He liked the shadow next to the door.

    Love,
    Janie

  9. He's a handsome frog! I adore frogs of all kinds, with my fav being the tree frogs here in FL. They'll attach themselves to the windows (good night time hunting spot) & you can see their little beating hearts thru their translucent bellies. They like to nap in the funniest places.

    1. That would be SO cool to see. I will have to look for some pics of those. I've seen a few tree frogs, very rarely, but never up close like that. Love it, thanks for sharing!!!
