Regular readers know that I have a favorite place to look for bargains...our downstairs trash area!  Our building has trash chutes on every floor and they feed into a separate room, but for boxes and other things that people can't put in the chute, there is an area (indoor) near the loading dock where people can put the things they don't want.  I've found quite a few cool items over the last few years.

I went downstairs on my usual reconnaissance mission and saw this.  A small little oil lamp sitting all by itself.  Nothing wrong with it, no cracks and no chips.  I looked at it and the bottom said "Made in Austria" so I figured it might be a nice little find.

Brought it upstairs and washed and cleaned it all with soap and hot water.  Wow!

It cleaned up nicely and is actually very pretty.  We couldn't tell until we cleaned it, but there is even a floral motif etched into the glass.  It's so pretty.  We just need to get a new (longer) wick.

The knob says "Lamplight Farms" and the bottom of the glass says "Made in Austria".  I found a couple of these for sale, they both said vintage, though not sure what year.  Average price was about $20-$30.

It's not valuable but we figured for a throwaway item, it will work great.  It never hurts to have a small, alternative means of lighting in an emergency or even a little old fashioned ambiance.

  1. What a Great Hot find. Them lamps do come in handy when the power goes off.
I'd say that treasure is around the 1980's; give or take a couple of years.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. perfect for the farm! use it as a light on the front porch!

  3. The luckiest part of that find is having the chimney in one piece and no chips! Wow! A hardware store might have the wicks you need!
That is really a great find!

  4. What a great find! It will make a warm, beautiful light inside or outside at the Farm.

  5. I love seeing all your trash to treasure finds. Well done!__anne in the kitchen

  6. If what it was sitting on was a headboard, I wondered ..have you seen the benches they make out of headboard/footboards. Neat little benches.

  7. Every year we organize a swap meet. People bring their unwanted items on the Friday and the Saturday and Sunday people come and get stuff for free! It’s probably the best attended event of the year. And it helps the environment. Last year we figured we kept about 85% out of landfills! And you should see the amount of stuff.

  8. I love the name .. I can't remember if you have a farm name or not, but if not I'd be calling it Lamplight Farm for sure ... for some reason I really like it. Anyhow ... cool find!!
