HOTTER AND DRIER THAN RECENT YEARS

Today is the first day of Summer.

It is hot and dry.

And has been for a few weeks now.

The view from the porch this past weekend.  The green is almost gone (in the grass of course).

5:14PM yesterday when we got home from work, it was still 100 degrees.

Felt like 104.

This is the most recent drought map for Texas.

The farm is in the "severe drought" category and borderline "extreme drought".  The worst category is "exceptional drought" which large parts of the state are, unfortunately, already in.

I haven't mowed in three weeks now.

Here is the forecast for this week into next.

Saturday and Sunday, we are looking at 105 degrees and they say we could have "feels like" temperatures this weekend of well over 110 degrees.

Welcome to the FIRST day of Summer.  It's going to be a long, hot one for sure.

  1. Temperatures same here, but I think our summer started a few weeks ago when the triple digits kicked in. So Hot, so early. Right now we're having what would normally be our July temperatures.
2011 holds the record for most 100° days in a row: 27 in total, from July 17 to August 12. A total of 90 triple-digit days were recorded that year, between May 25 and Sept. 29. The summers of 2001 and 2020 also saw 20-day stretches of temperatures at or above 100°.
Our grass is still green but not mowing as often, plus hubby raised the mower up a notch or 2.
Right about now; I'm ready for them Fall temperatures to kick in.
We have soaker hoses in our raised beds, so we do water them early in the morning.
Do take care, Everyone stay safe & stay cool.
    Have a wonderful evening

    1. Similar down here, in fact today Houston implemented phase one water conservation due to drought for the first time in more than a decade. Stay cool! And hydrated!

    1. Now there's a great thought. Plus hey, as much as we might like zen machine time, no one wants to do it in 110 degree weather ha.

  5. It is HOT and it is DRY! I am dreading this weekend’s even worse temps.
One of the Houston meteorologists said that yesterday was the hottest July 20 on record at 102.
Your poor grass – I think the technical term is “crunchy.”
If you need me, I'll be eating snowcones until November!

  6. Hot here in Alabama, too. I am hoping for everyone that maybe the heat moderates a bit toward july. Probably not, but I can hope!
