HIGH TEMPS, WALL SCONCE AND SPIDERS, OH MY

Here are some random updates from the last week...

99 Degrees
It's been hot the last few days.  I was heading back into town from the farm, where, I'll be honest, I stayed inside more than outside, and I looked at my car's outside temperature and it was 99.  I don't believe our "official" high temp was 99, it was actually 96, but that's splitting hairs when there is also 80% humidity and the "feels like" temp is over 100.  It's going to be a long, hot summer...just as long as we get lots of rain, it will be OK.

AND THEN...

Candle Wall Sconce
I found a home for one of the two sconces I got last week.  I can leave this one black, and it fits perfectly between the two windows in the sitting area off the master bedroom.  Now to get those curtains...

AND FINALLY...

Big A** Spider
...there was this guy (or gal).  I went out to the big green zen machine and reached down to remove the cover and saw this spider.  The thing was large, very large.  Probably about 3" across.  I would call it "sub-tarantula", LOL.

OK, so it probably wasn't related to a tarantula, but still, it was big.  I just brushed it away and it scurried into the grass.  Anyone have a clue what type it might be?  If it's dangerous, I won't let it escape next time, but if it's just a spider living it's life, eating bugs, then we can share the space, I won't like it, but we can share it.

  2. 1st Man - i looooove the wall sconce - it's perfect! now go and find some really pretty and interesting rocks from around your land and fill the bowl with them!!!! i can't help you with that spider ID - we have NO spiders that look like that or look THAT big up here (praise The Lord for all small miracles) - but if he/she isn't dangerous - you want him/her procreating all over your yard, creating little babies to eat all of the bugs! i am so sorry it is so hot down there - but come on - ya live in Texas - bahahahahahah!

    1. Thanks! Oh, rocks is a good idea. Of course, this IS Texas, we probably don't have as many cool rocks as you have up there, ha. But I'll keep my eye out while I'm outside working. I think the spider has been id'd, below, OMG, the name is NOT pleasant. Looks like she's a good one, though her bite is venomous, but not dangerous (?!?!?!). They do eat bugs (and small rodents). Yes, our payback for a mild Winter and almost year round gardening is our unbearable Summers. Ha. Thanks for stopping by, as always! Your Texas friend always!

    1. I thought you were joking, with a name like that! Then I googled it...OMG, you're spot on! Thank you, I think, LOL! I'm doing some research on it now. It's apparently venomous, but not dangerous, not sure how THAT works, lol. But I'll do some research and post about it. Thank you SO much!

    1. Thank you for the like, and are you SURE you don't need some hot as heck weather up there??? I'll trade you, some hot weather, a rabid wolf spider and a couple of rat snakes for some cool weather???

  5. OH MY....I'm with Tonya, I would have passed out (or screamed like John, hahaha). And that's the real name? Why did they put the name "rabid" in it? That's just stupid, hahaha.

    1. Yeah, "rabid" is not exactly a word you want in the official name of ANYTHING, huh? LOL!

    1. Thanks! It's a pretty neat find and it's funny, most of the windows in the house are too close together to put something like this, but in this spot (it was an add on once over the years) the windows are farther apart and it just fits nicely. :-)

  7. When you read about rabid wolf spiders it says they eat "mostly" insects. What they left out is their penchant for gentlemen farmers.

    1. I guess you don't have anything like this? Count yourself lucky. Yes, it's hot, but I suppose at least I CAN get outside. Well, rain is a good time to stay in and do some reading, organizing, cooking, or best of all, planning! Enjoy your time!

  9. 1st man, If it's going to be near 100F then it better be Arizona weather. IE lack of moisture. I wouldn't accept anything else. Luckily the last several days have been breezy and 70s in Michigan. Open window weather. :D

    1. Humidity here is unbelievable. I'm with you I think I could take the heat if it was dry. The humidity just drains you. Open window weather, ugh, I'm totally jealous! We won't have open window weather now until about mid-September.

  10. Oh, pppsssshhhh. Today it's 93 here and 60% humidity, and oh, that's right. No air conditioning. I haven't broken down and put the window unit in the bedroom yet, but that doesn't help the other rooms in the house.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids!!!
